Natalia Dyer, star of Stranger Things, appeared on August 12, episode 181 of season 9 of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which also featured Megan Thee Stallion as a guest. The actress talked about the love triangle of her character Nancy Wheeler in the episode. Later, when host Jimmy Fallon showed a photo of Dyer from the film’s 2009 red carpet premiere, she mentioned her Hollywood debut with Hannah Montana: The Movie. Dyer went on to say that her appearance on Stranger Things was not her first major acting job.
After seeing the photo, the actress said:
“It was my first appearance on the red carpet.” And, of course, I got dressed. Thank you for visiting Green Hills Mall, Betsey Johnson.”

“I was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee.” So it wasn’t — it wasn’t a big movie town back then. And then this – you know, this big show came up. It was significant. Everyone was ecstatic. And, yes, they had two British twin roles that they decided to cast locally. And I — they said, ‘We want a lady from Nashville, Tennessee, who’s British.'”
Natalia Dyer, 14, plays Clarissa Granger, one of the two children of journalist Oswald Granger (played by Peter Gunn) in the film. The main enemy of the film was a journalist who tried to find out who Hannah Montana’s hidden identity is: Miley Stewart (played by Miley Cyrus).
Natalie Dyer’s character and her twin sister were big fans of the imaginary singer in Hannah Montana: The Movie. In 2020, the actress talked more about the role with PEOPLE magazine. She stated:
“I’m not sure how much it directly affected my popularity. I don’t think I really talked about a lot of the things I did at school. It’s just something that happened.”
Meanwhile, the 27-year-old Nashville native told Cosmopolitan earlier this month that she felt she didn’t do her British accent well in the film. She stated:
“It was a little chaotic, but it was a lot of fun.” I played a British character. I don’t think I got the accent right, but I’m not sure if I can do a good British accent anymore. All this was new to me then; I was young and my mother was on set.”
However, Hannah Montana gave Natalia Dyer the experience she needed to star in another Disney film, The Greening of Whitney Brown, in 2011. Dyer was cast in indie films such as 2013’s Don’t Let Me Go. and 2014’s After Darkness after making a brief cameo in similar films. She then landed her most famous role to date as Nancy Wheeler in Stranger Things.
