Navneet Kaur Rana has worked in Telugu, Punjabi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi film industries. She got involved in the entertainment industry when she appeared in some music video albums. She made her acting debut in the Kannada film Darshan (2004), playing the lead role of Nandini. In 2014, Navneet Rana ran for the Amravati Lok Sabha seat on the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ticket, but ultimately lost. Shiv Sena candidate Anandrao Adsul won the seat with a margin of 1,37,932 votes.
2019 election
In 2019, Navneet Rana, as an independent candidate, won the Amravati Lok Sabha seat by defeating Shiv Sena candidate Anandrao Azul by 36,951 votes. From September 13, 2019 to September 13, 2020, he served as a member of the Standing Committee of Agriculture. On September 13, 2020, he was appointed as a member of the Standing Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Abused by Anandrao Adsul
In 2014, Navneet Rana lodged a complaint against Anandrao Adsul (from Shih) at the Gadge Nagar police station in Amravati. Shiv Sena) abused and threatened her in the name of caste and character. The harassment started when it became apparent that Navneet would contest against Asul in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections on an NCP ticket.
Caste certificate issuance
On June 8, 2021, the Bombay High Court canceled the caste certificate issued to Navneet Rana on the grounds that the certificate was fraudulently obtained using forged documents. Rana’s SC certificate indicates that she is a member of the “Mochi” (shoemaker) community. The Supreme Council passed the order on a petition filed by Anandrao Adsule seeking cancellation of the caste certificate issued by the Mumbai Deputy Collector on August 30, 2013, which confirmed that Rana belonged to the “Mochi” caste. The petition against her claimed that she was from Punjab and belonged to the Rabana caste. The judge noted that her original birth certificate did not mention the “Mochi” caste. HC said,
We are of the view that the two sets of documents submitted by respondent No. 3 (Navneet Rana) to the Examining Committee are contradictory. The third respondent identified himself as “Sikh Chamar” and “Ravidasiya Mochi”
Therefore, the Supreme People’s Court imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on her. The decision had serious ramifications as Navneet was a member of Parliament from Amravati Lok Sabha constituency, which is reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes. On June 17, 2021, Navneet Rana filed an appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the Bombay High Court’s decision to cancel her caste certificate.
Arrested at Hanuman Chalisa Street
She called for chants of Hanuman Chalisa outside Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s private residence ‘Matoshree’ in Mumbai on April 23, 2022 ), Mumbai police arrested her and her MLA husband Ravi Rana. The politician couple was placed in judicial custody for 14 days after Mumbai police filed sedition charges against them. Earlier, Ravi and Navneet had announced that they would recite Hanuman Chalisa in public if mosques continue to use loudspeakers to preach azan and other announcements. Thereafter, the couple was booked under Section 153 (A) of the IPC (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc. and committing conduct prejudicial to maintenance of harmony). A case was filed and registered. Section 135 of the Bombay Police Act (violation of police prohibition). Later, the police also added IPC Section 124-A (sedition) in the case against them. The city civil court granted bail to the couple on May 4, 2022, and the bail was set at Rs 100. $50,000 each and instructed not to speak to the media about the case.
