Nayyara Noor (2022-1950) was a famous Pakistani singer. She was popular for singing ghazals and poetry in mehfils and mushairas.

Nayyara Noor was born on Friday, November 3, 1950, in Guwahati, Assam, India (age 71; as of 2022). She grew up in Karachi, Pakistan. Her zodiac sign is Scorpio. She then studied at the National College of Arts, Lahore. When she was in college, she sang the bhajan “Jo Tum Todo Piya” from the film “Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje” (1955), which was originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar. There, a professor at the Islamic College named Asral listened to her song. He was a music expert and immediately fell in love with Noor’s voice. He then asked her to make a living from her singing career. Noor said of the professor in an interview,

He is a very good singer himself and has a deep affection for classical music. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to sing some of his songs early on. “

Noor started her career as a singer in Radio Pakistan. She then worked as a singer in Pakistani TV shows like “Taal Matol” and “Sach Gup”. She went on to dub for songs in several Pakistani films such as:

Noor used to attend various mehfils and mushairas singing her Urdu poetry and ghazals. Her ghazals including “Woh Jo Hum Mein Tum Mein”, “Rang Barsaat nay bharay kuchh tou”, “Phir sawan ruth ki pawan chali tum yaad aaei” and “Kabhi Hum Bhi Khoobssorat Thay” were critically acclaimed. Noor lent her voice to Pakistan’s national anthem “Watan ki mitti garah rehna”.

She died of cancer on August 20, 2022, in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. Her funeral was held at the Jamia Masjid O Imambagah Yasrab Mosque in Karachi, Pakistan. Many Pakistani celebrities expressed condolences on her death, including President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
