Nearly 20 Guests Have Watches, Clothes and Electronics Stolen From Luggage After Destination Wedding

After a joyous wedding celebration, the guests were horrified to discover that some of their belongings had been taken from their suitcases on the way home.

According to Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, upon returning to Ontario, Canada from their son’s destination wedding in Jamaica, the groom’s parents were shocked to find valuables missing from their luggage. They weren’t alone, as many of their fellow travelers—almost half of the 40 guests in their group—also lacked electronics, fragrances, and clothing.

“Ordinarily we would leave valuables at home, but it was a wedding, so we disguised ourselves,” said the groom’s mother, Lisa Parsons. CBC news in the interview. She added that the guests were traveling on Sunwing Airlines, a low-cost airline based in Toronto.

“It wasn’t about the money,” Lisa said, adding that her husband Dave’s AirPods, which were stolen, are still in Jamaica. “It’s more about the fact that now there’s that dark cloud when we were all on a high note.”

The outlet reported that the incident occurred on a day when guests loaded their belongings onto a bus at the Rio Ocho Rios Hotel and set off on a two-hour journey to Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. Upon arrival at the airport, guests checked in their bags.

After boarding, they landed in Canada around 11pm local time. It wasn’t until the next morning that the guests woke up to messages from Bryan Williams, a close friend of the groom, who claimed that a $200 bottle of cologne and some shirts and pants had been stolen.

“We have a big group conversation that we had while we were on the trip,” Williams said. “And everyone said, ‘yeah, I miss this, I miss that.’ We realized that more than one or two of us were missing some things.”

Soon, other guests also discovered missing items from their suitcases. They also said the lining of their bags had been shredded and the locks had been cut. Now, David, the groom’s father, is reminding people how important it is to be careful when traveling with valuables.

He said, “Make sure you keep your valuables close to you. And your bags, your main bags are at the mercy of whoever wants to access them I suppose.”
