Nida Khan

Nida Khan is an Indian politician and a well-known women’s rights activist in Uttar Pradesh, India. She joined the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in January 2022 and soon came into limelight. Nida Khan runs a non-profit organization called Ala Hazrat Helping Society in Uttar Pradesh that provides help to women who were victims of Nikah Halala. She went through talaq three times within five months of marriage or divorced her husband immediately.

Nida Khan and her husband Sheeran Raza Khan got married on February 18, 2015. Sheeran Raza Khan’s family is the descendant of the Ala Hazrat family in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. The Barelvi movement in South Asia was initiated by Sufi scholar Ala Hazrat between 1870 and 1890. Nida was in the final year of her master’s degree when she married Sheeran Raza Khan. Soon after her marriage, she was asked for dowry by her parents-in-law, and within five months of her marriage, she underwent triple talaq or was immediately divorced by her husband. According to Nida Khan, her in-laws assured her before the marriage that they would allow her to pursue higher studies after marriage. However, during the final exam, she was forcibly dragged out of the examination room by her husband in front of teachers and police. No one had the courage to stop Hiran Raza Khan from humiliating his wife in public because Hiran Raza came from a prominent family in Uttar Pradesh. Later, she began to experience domestic violence, and once she had a miscarriage. Soon, she became a victim of triple talaq (i.e. instant divorce) on July 17, 2015, and was forced to practice Nikah Halala by her in-laws. But she refused and left her in-laws’ house.

Allah Hazrat helps society

In 2016, Nida Khan founded a non-profit organization called ‘Ala Hazrat Helping Society’ in Uttar Pradesh to help and assist people who have experienced triple talaq, polygamy, domestic violence and Nikah Halala muslim woman.

Soon after hearing the news about Sheeran Raza Khan’s second marriage, Nida Khan went to meet Sheeran’s bride-to-be. Nida showed her photos of her injuries from domestic violence and other documents demanding dowry. Nida recounted her marriage to this woman and successfully persuaded her to dissolve the marriage. Nida Khan threatened by angry husband for breaking up second marriage. She went to complain against him. The police did not allow her to file a complaint against Sheeran Raza Khan. Later, her complaint was registered following a court notice. The investigation into her case began in April 2017 and a charge sheet was filed in 2018.

Fatwa against Nida Khan

Shahar Imam Mufti Khurshid Alam issued a fatwa against Nida Khan in July 2018, accusing her of rebelling against Islamic customs, especially the triple Talaq or instant divorce system. Soon after the fatwa was issued against her, Nida Khan in a conversation with a media outlet said that India is a democratic country and if someone wants to issue a fatwa, then they can move to Pakistan. she says,

Those who issued the fatwa “should go to Pakistan”. “India is a democracy. No one can exclude me from Islam. Only God can decide who is guilty.”

The fatwa against Nida Khan is as follows:

If she is sick, no medication will be provided. If she died, no one was allowed to offer sacrifices at her “janaza” (funeral procession). She could not be buried in Qablistan (cemetery) after her death. “

According to the fatwa, Nida Khan was ordered to leave the country within three days and a cash reward of rupees was announced for anyone who cuts off Nida Khan’s hair. 11,876.

Nida Khan entered politics in January 2022. She bagged a ticket from the BJP shortly before the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Nida Khan appreciates the work done by Yogi Adityanath’s ministry to protect the safety of Muslim women in Uttar Pradesh, she said at a BJP press conference after Yogi Adityanath Women are safe under the Yogi Adityanath government. she says,

Triple Talaq was the turning point in my life and that is why I support the BJP. The BJP has done a great job by bringing in a law against triple talaq. Other parties seem to be just shouting slogans of women empowerment and women safety, but only the BJP has proven it. “

Her father-in-law, Tauqeer Raza Khan, and his party have extended support to the Indian National Congress ahead of the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

  • Soon after her divorce, Nida Khan wrote a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in which she requested him to abolish the practice of triple talaq. She also stated in the letter that she did not believe in the Islamic practice of instant divorce. Nida Khan was forced to practice Nikah Halala soon after her divorce. In “Nika Harala” Nida Khan must marry and consummate her father-in-law and brother-in-law so that she can remarry her ex-husband. But she objected to this and was kicked out of the house by her parents-in-law.
