Susanna Reid was angered by Farage’s attempts to challenge the contempt of court
His remarks about the mass killing of children in Southport and the resulting mass riots in July, as well as the subsequent discussions about contempt of court, were what angered Reid the most.
She said Tory leadership candidate Tom Tugendhat accused him of “reinforcing false information” over a video he released claiming police had “suppressed the truth” about the alleged perpetrator.
The moderator started the discussion by pointing out that there is a legal process going on that they must be careful not to jeopardize.
Farage interjected: “We always hide behind that, don’t we?”
Reid shot back: “That’s the rule of law in this country, not to compromise someone’s fair trial and allow the families of those who suffered to hear the truth.”
Farage said: “We hide behind this time and time again…”
To which Reid cut in, “Why do you say ‘hide’? You fully support the rule of law, you know what contempt of court is.”
When Farage started to fight back, she told him: “Please don’t go into contempt of court.”
The former UKIP leader hit out at Lib Dem peer Lord Carlisle and Westminster “legal czar” Jonathan Hall KC, both saying governments, in general, hide behind the idea of legal process.
Farage said: “Susanna, you can shake your head…”

She replied, “I’m absolutely shaking my head… you asked if we were hiding the truth…”
He cut in, “Of course it’s a secret.”
Farage then referred to the 2023 Nottingham mass murders carried out by Valdo Calocane – pointing to the fact that it took his trial to reveal that doctors had previously advised he was a danger.
Reid said: “They are two completely different cases. That’s not how the rule of law works.”
Farage said: “The public deserves to know the truth.”
He went on to say, “Why do you think the riots happened the way they did? Because there was a vacuum, people weren’t being told the truth.”
Reid’s co-host Ed Balls accused Farage of trying to help “ignite” people into rioting amid false claims that the suspect is an immigrant spreading on social media.
“You are a parliament member, now you have responsibility, you can’t just act like some expert on some TV show,” he said.
‘TOTALLY DAMAGED’
Earlier in his appearance, Farage told the show that the Conservative brand was “totally damaged” and that he had no intention of doing a deal with the next Tory leader.
Farage said about the four candidates for the leadership of the Conservative Party: “They all think with a new leader, ‘everything will be fine, all the voters will come back to us’, and what they don’t understand is that the Conservative brand is completely damaged, they have no chance of winning the next elections.”
He added: “There would be no agreement with them, I wouldn’t trust them anyway, they have a pattern of behavior that pretends to be one thing, and when they are in the government it is the complete opposite.
“And, frankly, what I’m trying to do with Reform is replace them.”
Speaking about the Tories’ Brexit record and asked if he was proud of the UK leaving the EU, Mr Farage said: “Do I think getting our independence back was the right thing? You bet your life.
“Do I think we handled it well? God, no.”
