Nikhil Kumaraswamy, also known as Nikhil Gowda, is an Indian actor who works primarily in the Kannada and Telugu film industries. He is the son of former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and grandson of former Indian Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda.

Nikhil Kumaraswamy was born on Monday, January 22, 1990 (30 years old in 2020) in Bengaluru. His star sign is Aquarius. He attended school at Carmel School and Clarence School in Bengaluru. After completing his schooling, Nikhil enrolled for a pre-university course but dropped out midway. He later completed his bachelor’s degree course through correspondence. Nikhil was good at cricket as a child. He started taking cricket training at a young age and by the age of 11, he was so good at it that he was invited to join the seniors in the nets.

As an actor
Nikhil started his acting career with the 2016 Kannada-Telugu bilingual film Jaguar, in which he played the role of ‘Krishna’. The film won him the SIIMA Award for Best Debut Actor (Male) – Kannada.
He next appeared in the Kannada film Seetharama Kalyana.

As a politician
Nikhil started his political career in 2019 by contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Mandya district as a JDS candidate. The district was considered a safe bastion for the Congress-JDS alliance. However, he lost the elections from Sumanlata Ambarish by a margin of 128,725 votes. During the elections, Nikhil was given the name ‘Nikhil Elidiappa’. Soon after the results were announced, two locations named ‘Nikhil Elidiappa’ appeared on Google Maps which were later removed by the authorities.

- In October 2006, Nikhil Kumaraswamy along with his two friends Rahul Mahajan and Manu Sharma smashed beer bottles at Empire International Hotel at 3:30 am after the hotel staff refused to serve him food and closed the hotel restaurant. Later, the hotel owner filed a complaint, alleging that unidentified persons had ransacked his premises and attacked his staff. Devi Gowda defended his grandson and tried to put a different spin on the case each time. Eventually, then Karnataka Home Minister and Congress MP Prakash dismissed the incident as a “juvenile crime” that could be excused and said action would be taken against the hotel for operating outside the permitted hours.
- In May 2019, the Bengaluru police filed a case against the editor of a Kannada daily for publishing a false article after it published an article in which a drunk Nikhil caused a scene at his grandfather’s house and blamed him for his political failure.
