She started her career as a playback singer in 2013 with the song “Modern Kalyanam” from the Tamil film “Kalyana Samayal Saadham”.
She later sang the song “Ladio” for the Telugu, Tamil and Hindi versions of the Tamil film I (2015).
In 2015, she sang three songs for the Iranian film “Muhammad (SAL): Messenger of God”. In 2017, she made her debut as a singer in Bollywood with the song “Raabta Title Song” from the movie “Raabta”.

- She was preparing to become a dentist until she and her choir performed with a German orchestra and were noticed by AR Rahman during an Indo-German exchange. AR Rahman auditioned her alone for an independent project “Qyuki”, which he did with Shekhar Kapur.
- In 2012, she released a Bengali album titled “Kotha”, a rearrangement of Nazrul Geeti (a song written and composed by poet Kazi Nazrul Islam), which became an instant success.

- She is an active philanthropist and works on many social and environmental welfare projects. She organizes free dental camps and promotes tree planting and dog adoptions.
- She is the lead singer of the five-piece band “Noor”, which includes Sajith Sathya, Jerard Felix, Godfrey Immanuel and Joshua Gopal. She performs regularly at concerts and music festivals.
- She also sang three songs for the Hollywood film Pele: The Birth of a Legend (2016), a biopic based on the life of Brazilian football player Pele.
- In 2018, she released her first independent single “Humshakal”. The song was written and produced by Nikita herself.
- Nikita Gandhi was scheduled to perform at the Cochin Technological University Annual Music Festival in Kochi, Kerala on November 25, 2023; however, the event was interrupted when four students were killed in a stampede at the event. Nikita quickly took to social media to express her sadness, noting that the incident happened before she left for the event.
