In 2016, she filed a complaint with the Sanaa police station, but instead of the issue being resolved, she was imprisoned for 16 days in accordance with Yemeni law. She was only released from jail when Mahdi presented a fake marriage certificate in court. Nimisha claimed that Mahdi continued to harass her in different ways and even confiscated her passport, saying:
He confiscated my passport and forced me to live with him. He would come to my house very drunk, physically attack me, threaten me to obey him, and cause me harm. He even used to bring his friends to my house at night and force me to provide them with sexual services. I would run out and protect myself every time. For me, those were sleepless nights with no one to help or support me. I am alone. Yemen is not a place where you can see women out at night. But I would run out of the house and escape the attack. “
Tommy Thomas said in an interview that although Nimisha was fluent in Arabic, she could not understand the language. At the time the documents were produced, Mahdi allegedly acquired 67% of the clinic’s shares in his own name, with 33% held in the name of Abdul Lateer. Mahdi also registered other types of clinic equipment and vehicles in his name. Thomas claimed that Nimisha used about 22 SIM cards to contact him and every time Mahdi confiscated a SIM card, she would try to obtain another. Hanan knew that Nimisha was being harassed by the Mahdi and they decided to cut his body into pieces and throw them into a nearby water tank. Nimisha allegedly became anxious after seeing the incident and took pills, while Hanan cut Mahdi’s body into pieces.
