Nina Dobrev opens up about how she keeps things fresh with her boyfriend of nearly four years, Shaun White.
In the last episode of PEOPLE at 10, Mason star, 35, says she and the former professional snowboarder and skateboarder, 37, take turns planning their date nights.
“In general, I’m more of a planner in life. Yes, I love a schedule and I sure love a plan. I’m a Capricorn, so it’s very much a part of my personality,” he explains. “But we implemented something, I think it’s really great. We have dates every week and we take turns [planning].”

She continues, “So one week I’ll plan it and he won’t have a clue what we’re doing so it’s a surprise for him. And then next week they will plan and it will be a complete surprise to me. And we do that every week.”
The vampire Diaries the alum adds the experience “keeps things kind of exciting and interesting and dedicates the time the two of us spend together.”
Dobrev also says the couple enjoyed spending time together when the Olympian visited her in Greece during filming Mason.

“You know it’s interesting because during the Olympics and before the Olympics he was traveling all over the world, trying to get to the mountains and train,” she says of White, who has announced he plans to retire after the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

“So for most of our relationship I traveled where he had to be, except during COVID when I was on break between jobs, so it was great that he supported me and went out where I was,” she said. he adds. “The only trouble was I missed the Oscars because he was presenting at the Oscars while I was filming so I couldn’t go but he got to bring his mum and they looked amazing together and she got the experience of a lifetime so that’s was really great.”
The couple also recently celebrated Dobrev’s 35th birthday at the Happiest Place on Earth.

The actress shared photos from her surprise trip to Disneyland – planned by White – on a carousel on Instagram earlier this month.
“The happiest surprise on the happiest day in the happiest place on earth,” Dobrev wrote. “Some of my closest friends surprised me on January 9th… and I have to say it’s HARD TO SURPRISE me. I always know what’s going on. But they’ve got me covered.”
She joked that she was “still in shock” but felt “incredibly happy, celebrated, loved, thankful and appreciative” of everyone who helped her celebrate her big day. “When it comes to friends, I definitely hit the jackpot,” she added.

Dobrev concluded with a few words for White: “Big thanks to my love @shaunwhite for orchestrating the whole thing! You sneaky little devils ♥️🥰🫶🏼😍😘. I love you.”
In April, White told PEOPLE that he felt “no pressure” to propose to Dobreva.
“Right now we’re just enjoying our time together,” White said. “But I told her, I was like, ‘Look, after the Olympics, I finally got my freedom to do whatever. And let’s just have fun and be together and support each other.'”
“But you never know. We’ll see what happens,” he added.
