Nitin Agrawal was born in Delhi on Wednesday, July 27, 1966 (57 years; as of 2023). His zodiac sign is Leo. He has also served as Inspector General (IG) Training in ITBP, where he oversaw the training of officers and other personnel in the force, including basic, advanced and in-service courses. In July 2015, he served as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kerala. As Assistant Director-General, he was responsible for Police Communications and Wireless Systems and was responsible for the collection, maintenance, collation, analysis and presentation of crime and related data. He also oversees the Fingerprint Bureau and serves as the nodal officer on several state level responsibilities. He was appointed as the Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF) on June 11, 2023, after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs to appoint him as the new Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF). The appointment letter stated,

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs to appoint Shri Nitin Agarwal (IPS), currently serving as Additional Director General, CRPF, as Director General, Border Security Force (BSF) with a pay scale of 16th grade on the pay matrix from the date of joining till 2026 July 31, 2017, i.e. the date of receipt of pension or until further order, whichever is earlier. “

Agrawal will succeed Sujoy Lal Thaosen as Director General of BSF on June 14, 2023, who took over additional responsibilities from Pankaj Kumar Singh after his retirement in December 2022. Sujoy Lal Thaosen has been holding this position for the past five months.
