Noah Kahan Reacts to SNL Debut with 2021 Tweet Saying He’d ‘Do Anything’ to Be on Show: ‘Rub Your Eyes’

The “Stick Season” singer will make a musical guest appearance on the December 2 episode, hosted by Emma Stone

It may be wand season, but Noah Kahan has a lot to celebrate these days.

The singer-songwriter, 26, is fresh off his first Grammy nomination — for Best New Artist — and just checked off another item on the list as he was announced as the musical guest on the Dec. 2 episode. Saturday night live.

Kahan reacted to the news on Instagram by re-sharing SNL promo image — which announced he’ll appear in an episode hosted by Emma Stone — and then revives his old tweet from 2021 in which he expressed a deep desire to one day appear on the late-night show.

“I want to continue performing SNL. I don’t even care if it’s an off-brand version called Sunday Night Live, just put me on the show, I’ll do anything,” the folk singer wrote in the post.

He captioned the Instagram post “rub your eyes,” as he shared his shock at earning a spot on the celebrity show.

In a more sentimental post, Kahan recalled an interaction at an open mic session he played at a few years ago and how the host told him while they were both in the bathroom, “It’s really hard work and I’ve seen a lot of talented people fail.”

“I’ve never felt so hopeless about my career,” Kahan said of the man’s comment.

Although he is not new to writing and performing, the last two years have been crucial changes in the life of this Vermont native. Since releasing his third studio album, Stick season, 2022, went from a songwriter struggling during the pandemic at his parents’ house to a chart-topping, Grammy-nominated viral sensation. He is gearing up for his first stadium tour of 2024, the We’ll All Be Here Forever Tour, which will hit cities across the US and Canada after a few weeks in Europe.

As he looks ahead and considers what’s next, Kahan feels a little nervous, admittedly.

“I definitely feel a lot of pressure,” he told PEOPLE at the TIME100 Next Gala in New York last month. “Every time I make a song, I think, ‘The next one is going to be bad,’ and I think I just have to keep trying. I don’t know. Maybe if it stinks, it stinks, but what I” I’m happy that I got out in front of a lot of people and made some dreams come true. If this is the last time I get a chance to do it, I’ll be glad I had the chance at all.”
