Former high school rapper NO:EL is facing a year in prison for driving without a license and refusing a breath test. On October 14, 2022, the third division of the Supreme Court confirmed the rapper’s one-year prison sentence. Jang Yong-jun, also known as NO:EL, is the son of politician Jang Je-won, a member of the National Assembly from the United Future Party. He is a self-taught rapper who debuted in 2017. Music has always been this singer/rapper’s passion. However, past mistakes have tarnished him.
A Brief History of Misconduct NO:EL
The Korean rapper was spotted driving a Mercedes Benz in Banpo District, Seocho District, Seoul on September 18, 2021 and was involved in an accident. When officers arrived at the crime scene, they attempted to test his alcohol level and driver’s license. On the other hand, he refused to obey and instead hit them on the head.
NO: EL was sentenced to one year in prison after the first two trials. However, he was acquitted of injuring the officer with minor injuries. NO: EL subsequently filed an appeal against the ruling, which was moved to the Supreme Court. He was sentenced to a year in prison after an appeals court upheld his original sentence. In 2020, he was sentenced to one year and six months in prison and two years of probation for drunk driving. He also tried to switch drivers to cover up his mistake.
He then re-offended the same criminal offense and was arrested by order on October 12, 2021, during probation. NO: EL was detained during the trial. However, at the end of the month, when his restraining order was lifted, he was released. After a year in prison, he was released on October 9, 2022. In addition, in 2019, he hit a motorcyclist while driving while drunk and then did social workers to atone for their mistakes.
Amid the rapper’s misconduct and court proceedings, K-net netizens welcomed the Supreme Court’s latest ruling. As a musician, the 22-year-old has released a studio album most recently titled 21’S/S 2021. He has released three studio albums, two extended plays and several singles along with other tracks. Other rappers include Justhis, Kid Milli, Young B, Giriboy, and Swings since debut.
