Non-league clash abandoned due to medical emergency with players taken off pitch as fans say ‘football doesn’t matter’

A NON-LEAGUE game was abandoned today due to a “medical emergency” with a spectator.

Slough Town’s official X account has confirmed that the game against Bath City has been called off after it was initially called off.

The club released a statement at 16:44 to inform fans that the match had been stopped, writing: “Play has been suspended. A medical emergency resulted in both sets of players leaving the pitch.

“Our thoughts are with the fans involved. Updates to come.”

They then offered an update twenty minutes later to confirm the match had been abandoned, saying: “Match abandoned. Due to a medical emergency, we need to inform both fans that today’s game has been abandoned. Updates to follow.”

The club have now released an update which reveals the person was taken to hospital and was “sitting and talking” before being taken away by emergency crews.

Slough led 4-2 before the game was abandoned in the 70th minute due to an emergency in the National League South game.

Slough City player manager Scott Davies confirmed the fan was fine “after five minutes” and appeared to imply the game should not have been stopped.

He wrote: “Firstly the fan is fine and was fine after 5 minutes. But how far will some people go to win a game when under pressure…

“Then there’s us just enjoying our season without any pressure. The dignity is still intact in our end, as it always will be! 👊🏼”

Bath City Supporters Club joined hundreds of fans at X in wishing the individual a speedy recovery.

The account read: “Sending our thoughts and strength to the person involved.”

The fans of both clubs shared their support. One wrote: “Thoughts and prayers go out to the fan and their family. Football doesn’t matter at this time.”

A fellow fan posted: “I hope all is well.”

Another fan wrote: “I hope the fan is ok.”

While a Slough Town fan wrote: “This is not a good hope for a person to be ok. 🙏”
