Peggy Moore, a former campaign official for former President Barack Obama, and her husband were killed in a car accident in San Diego County, California over the weekend.
Moore, 60, and Hope Wood, 48, were passengers in a Jeep pickup truck on their way home from a concert Friday night, May 10, when the vehicle crashed into a sedan, according to NBC Bay Area.
The 60-year-old driver of the Jeep was also killed. The driver of the sedan was also pronounced dead at the scene, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said. Another passenger in the Jeep survived.

According to a press release from the San Diego County Department of the Medical Examiner, a preliminary investigation determined that the women and the driver of the vehicle “were traveling westbound on State Route 76 west of Horse Ranch Creek Road in Fallbrook.”
“For unknown reasons, the Jeep collided with a Chrysler sedan [traveling] in the direction of the east on the same road”, the press release states. “Limousine driver [was] also uttered on stage.”

Although only Wood was identified in the press release, numerous social media posts that followed confirmed that the crash claimed the lives of both women.

“Their values brought them together and are the legacy they leave behind. Their family and friends are hurting, but we have to remember that we are all connected through the work they did every day,” Lee, 77, continued.
Lee’s post included photos from a memorial erected in honor of Moore and Hope.
Wood and Moore met during the Obama campaign in 2008. They later founded Hope Action Change, an organizational development consulting and coaching firm that focused on diversity, according to the company’s website.
“We are shocked and saddened by the tragic deaths of Peggy Moore and her wife Hope Wood. Peggy was a relentless political leader, community advocate and friend to Alice,” he said Alice B Toklas LGBTQ Democratic Club he wrote in a dedicated couplet.
“Her leadership on LGBTQ+ issues has made our community stronger. She will always be remembered for her commitment to democratic values, incomparable organizational skills and kind nature. We extend our support, condolences and best wishes to the family and friends of Peggy and Hope at this difficult time,” the group’s post concluded.

Moore also managed former Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf’s 2014 election campaign. She then worked in Schaff’s office from 2015 to 2017, according to her LinkedIn profile.

“You couldn’t walk anywhere with Peggy without it taking two hours,” Schaaf told local outlet KRON 4. “She knew every person. Politics was deeply personal to her. It was about connecting through our differences. raise our common hopes and only love.”
Moore also served as a senior consultant to Contra Costa County District Attorney Diane Becton’s campaign and served as political director for Hilary Clinton’s California presidential campaign.
