Oliver Stark teases Buck’s alternate reality
Screen Rant: Episode 10 stalled on a large cliff. Can you have fun about thing 11?
Oliver Stark: Starting from the remaining 10. With all the chaos we had at the end of episode 10, this is sure to last until the beginning of episode 11. We’ll find Buck in the strange space between life and death, where he really is. can go any way. We’ll see what this might mean externally for the other 118 members and how this will affect them.
From the synopsis, we know that Buck dreams of a world where he never becomes a firefighter. How about playing this alternate version of him?
Oliver Stark: It was really fun to do those scenes where he meets different members of 118 in different places, but plays out those relationships in a completely different way. So shooting these scenes with actors I know very well, but completely changing the dynamics between the characters—it’s a really fun challenge that I think we all have to really enjoy.
Buck is truly the heart and soul of 118. He is the one who gathers the army. How will the team handle his down?
Oliver Stark: He’s obviously very important to all of them, and in different ways. I think we’ve seen over the years, in every season and every episode, that they care deeply about him. So he’s in a precarious situation that I think really affects them and really brings out all kinds of emotions, even from characters where we don’t necessarily see a lot of emotional aspects. their touch. When they themselves are in trouble, the situation is completely different.
How many thunderstorm scenes have you filmed and how many of your stunts?
Oliver Stark: It’s a mix. I’ve been to the top of the ladder hundreds of times over the years, so staying on top has always been good for me. When he rolls to the edge a little, he’ll dangle overhead, and that’s double, and that’s the essence of shooting these things—safety. Near the end, when he was almost touching the ground, I was floating in mid-air under the cold fake rain. It’s a mix between myself and a couple, which is usually how these things come together.
On the other hand, do you think Buck’s childhood and his strained relationship with his parents influenced his decision to become a sperm donor?
Oliver Stark: Of course. I think his childhood and the reason he was born had a huge influence on his life, even his becoming a firefighter. He was born to save people, and it may not be helpful. I think he spent most of his life, maybe on a subconscious level, grappling with that and trying to be a hero. Now that it had become an opportunity to do it again, he threw himself into it.
Is there anything you can tease about that plot?
Oliver Stark: It didn’t turn out the way I thought people expected. I think there’s a lot of fear around him that he’s going to get hurt, and that he sees himself as a father. I don’t think he thinks he’s the father. We’ll definitely see that in episode 10. He tells his mother, “I’m not the father, I’m the donor.” And that will continue. I think he reached a point in his life when he really took control of his decisions and understood the consequences and importance of those decisions. I think he completely understood his role and made that decision more consciously than people expected.
Buck is close to everyone in 118, but what relationship is really emphasized in the second half of the season?
Oliver Stark: In the first few episodes, [we see] Bobby is a real pillar of strength for him. I think as we went on, certainly after the lightning strike, we saw all 118 people serving Buck in different ways. I think it’s almost too much for him sometimes, and he needs to step out of it and learn to not depend on anyone – or find a balance between knowing when to ask for help. and know when to draw strength to be ready to help. he himself.
Do you have a favorite 6B episode?
Oliver Stark: I think 6×11 is an immediately obvious answer to me, but I almost feel it’s such an obvious answer that it’s almost a boring answer. I really like what we’re doing right now. I think the ending is a really great episode. I think it’s really, really high-octane, but it really brings out a lot about pushing these characters forward and putting them in good positions. I think the ending is something people really like.
I especially like this fan question. What song would you use to describe Buck’s backstory in the second half of the season?
Oliver Stark: That’s about me. Whenever someone asks me to name a song, I immediately forget everything I’ve ever written. Like completely blank…I have one! [Laughs] So there are two. While filming several stories for Buck, one of them made complete sense to me. Helping in those gaps was also very helpful to me. I actually put it on my Instagram yesterday.
It’s called “Stay in My Dreams” by Daniel Leggs. The other is “Keeping Me Alive” by Jonathan Roy. This is a song that I really discovered while filming “Buck Begins”. Inside there are these lines [that go] Something like, “This fire keeps me alive,” feels like a great fit for Buck’s position and mine. It’s a song Buck will always be in my head.
With all of Buck’s maturity, how do you think the Buck of the past would see the Buck of the present?
Oliver Stark: I think he would be proud of himself. Like what I said about how he got to the point where he was himself and he was fine with his decisions. I think he’s more of a leader than he was a few years ago. I know at the end of the season we saw him being told he wasn’t ready to be interim captain and he had to go out and live his life more.
I think he did that through the first half, now the second half of the sixth season, and he’s been through a lot. I think he is becoming a better firefighter, I think he is becoming a better leader, I think he is becoming a better friend. So I think the Buck in the past will be and should be very proud of where the Buck is now.
