Although Olivia Chow continues to be in the lead in the race for Toronto mayor, a new survey indicates that support is shifting towards another contender. According to a Mainstreet Research poll issued on Friday, Chow continues to be the top choice among registered voters to hold the top position in the city, receiving 30% of the vote.
Ana Bailao is in second place, receiving 21% of the vote, an increase of 6 percentage points from the poll conducted last week. With 14%, Matlow is in third place and has gained four points from the last poll. Mitzie Hunter and Mark Saunders complete the top five.
Saunders’ percentage of supporters fell from 12 to 10%, whilst Hunter’s remained constant. Anthony Furey (seven per cent), Brad Bradford (four per cent), and Chloe Brown (two per cent) are in their wake. In accordance with the report, 26% of those questioned are still unsure regarding the next mayor.
The most recent statistics were released a few days following the Daily Bread Food Bank’s first televised mayoral debate. Most respondents who were asked how confident they were that their preferred candidate for mayor would win said they were very to fairly confident.
However, they differ on how confident they are that Toronto will move in the right direction under the leadership of the city’s next mayor, whoever that person may be. Residents still have more than a month to persuade voters to choose a candidate as their next mayor.
