Olivia Culpo and Christian McCaffrey Tie the Knot in Rhode Island

Olivia Culpo and Christian McCaffrey are married!

The model, 32, and the NFL star, 28, tied the knot in her home state of Rhode Island on Saturday, June 29.

The couple married in a chapel in Watch Hill, a coastal neighborhood in the town of Westerly, because McCaffrey had always wanted to get married in a church, Culpo said. Vogue. “That was our number one priority,” she added of the location.

Speaking to the magazine ahead of her wedding, Culpo said marriage is a “covenant”. “It’s the beginning of the rest of your life,” she said, “and it’s the union and bond of two people forever.”

So when it came time to pick a dress, the former Miss Universe opted for a custom Dolce & Gabbana gown that, she says, “felt as serious as the commitment.”

The stunning long-sleeved ball gown featured a round neckline and dropped waist, and was paired with a 16ft lace veil and minimal make-up – no mascara or brow gel. “I didn’t want it to ooze sexiness in any way, shape or form,” she said Vogue her bridal look.

“I wanted it to feel effortless and like it was complimenting me, not outdoing me,” she continued. “There is so much beauty and simplicity.”

“When I think about Christian and what he likes and the moments he thinks I’m the most beautiful, it’s absolutely in something like this: timeless, covered and elegant,” added the model.

Like Culp’s actual formal look, the process of designing the dress was quite simple. The first sketch that the Dolce & Gabbana atelier presented to her looked practically identical to the final product, she said Vogue.

“It was exactly the same as the original sketch,” Culpo said, adding, “This is the first, last and only wedding dress I tried on.”

Culpo and the San Francisco 49ers running back — who first sparked dating rumors in May 2019 — announced their engagement via a joint Instagram post in April 2023. They shared photos from the romantic proposal, which took place during a Utah getaway, including the moment McCaffrey got down on one knee. Another image offered a glimpse of Culp’s ring, with a large oval diamond and side stones on the epaulet.

“We’ve tried to keep this quiet as long as possible, but apparently word is spreading fast,” Culpo wrote on her Instagram Story at the time. “I’m marrying my best friend, I love you so much, fiance.”

Just weeks after McCaffrey popped the question, the former Miss Universe told PEOPLE she was “so excited” about the engagement. “It was the thrill of a lifetime, honestly,” she said.

She also shared details about her then-fiancé’s surprise proposal during Amazon Live, telling her fans she had no idea it was coming.

“Christian deserves an Oscar for his performance. He was leading me astray the whole time,” she recalled at the time. “I kept asking him if he was ready to get engaged or if he had any kind of time frame in mind because I was getting a little nervous … he never peeked.”

Of course, she was already thinking about an important wedding detail: her dress. “I have an idea in mind, but I’ve found that you never know until you try on the actual dress… I don’t know, I have an idea,” she said, adding, “It’s a lot of pressure.”

As for McCaffrey getting a peek at her dress before meeting her down the aisle, Culpo told PEOPLE in May that she wanted to keep her bridal look a surprise until the big moment.

“I know for sure we’re not going to do a first look, so they won’t see me until I walk down the aisle, I think that’s a little less common these days,” she said.

As early as November 2022, Culpo said Party tonight that she was willing to break her no-dating-athlete rule again because she recognized that McCaffrey was special.

“He’s just the best, I feel like he’s really everything I could ever want,” she said. “So I never have to worry about anything. I think that’s why I didn’t want to date an athlete, no offense, because there’s a reputation there.”

She added: “He comes from a great family. We have a lot in common in that regard. I feel like you can really tell who a person is by the people who raise them.”

During each of McCaffrey’s NFL seasons so far, Culpo has fully embraced the WAG life, cheering her beau on at his games and even wearing custom 49ers gear to show off her team spirit.

After McCaffrey’s team won the NFC Championship — and secured their spot in the Super Bowl — in January 2024, Culpo posted an Instagram Reel of the pair hugging and celebrating the moment after the win.

“Watching the love of your life live and realize his dream is the best feeling in the world,” she wrote alongside the video and added in the title of the post: “You deserve it all Christian ❤️. I love you so much.”
