Olivia Culpo’s Dating History: From Nick Jonas to Christian McCaffrey

Olivia Culpo has come a long way from making Nick Jonas “jealous.”

The former Miss Universe dated the Jonas Brothers singer for nearly two years, during which Jonas wrote his Culp-inspired hit. Following her split from Jonas, Culpo was linked to several different high-profile athletes before eventually finding love with San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey, whom she has been dating since 2019.

While she has found happiness, Culpo hints on her TLC reality show The Culpo Sisters that her love life wasn’t always so rosy.

“I constantly worry about the future. I always thought I would be married by the time I was 30 [and] I would have children,” she said. “I was with someone who did really horrible, horrible things. They made me feel less than human in every sense of the word. I’ve never talked about it before.”

However, as she told PEOPLE StyleWatch for her November 2022 cover story, the past has helped her appreciate her current relationship with McCaffrey.

“I think every single relationship teaches you so much about yourself, and I definitely value my current relationship that I never would have because of all my past experiences, so you have to be grateful for the rough s—,” she said.

In April 2023, McCaffrey proposed to Culpo on a trip to Utah.

Were they or weren’t they?

In September 2012, Olympian Ryan Lochte was reportedly infatuated with Culp. He said Hey! News at the time, “She’s gorgeous. I love hanging out with her. She’s got a great sense of humor. She makes me laugh. She’s just a good girl to hang out with.”

However, Culpo didn’t seem all that enamored with the swimmer, saying New York Post that she and Lochte are just friends and that she is single. “People make things up when they see people together,” she said.

Culpo and Jonas first started dating in 2013, with the Rhode Island native moving to Los Angeles to be with the “Sucker” singer.

In April 2015, Jonas praised Culp for making his life better overall, telling PEOPLE, “I think any time you have a teammate it makes things a little easier. It’s been a wild ride and a crazy year and a half. It’s been really special.” He also noted that strangers watching her inspired his hit song “Jealous.”

Jonas told PEOPLE that June that he’s “not a pro” at long-distance relationships while on tour, explaining, “It’s just about trying to take it one step at a time. I think the long-distance thing can be hard, but try to stay in communication, keep is transparent and honest, and that should be fine.”

Just a week later, news broke that the couple had split, with a friend of Jonas saying the breakup had been “difficult” for the model and singer.

For her part, Culpo remained largely silent about her relationship with the singer until she opened up about the split and its aftermath on her reality series The Culpo Sisters in November 2022.

“I dated Nick and it was a very formative experience for me,” she said. “I moved to LA with him. I had no brand, no money, and I was in love. That was great, wasn’t it? But when he broke up with me, I kind of lost my identity. My whole identity was in it, which is a very common story about a young person in love.”

Culpo added that she believed she and Jonas would one day get married, and that after their breakup she struggled to afford her lifestyle.

“I just remember looking at my ceiling night after night in an apartment I couldn’t afford, thinking to myself how I was going to pay the rent,” she said. – I couldn’t even afford my groceries.

Still, she’s grateful for the experience, explaining, “It was a serious, pivotal moment for me, but it was something that taught me that you shouldn’t give up.” She also previously told PEOPLE that she is thrilled with the engagement of Jonas and his now-wife Priyanka Chopra. “I think at any moment anyone can find love, especially in this industry – because it’s hard, you can see there’s a track record of things not working out. I’m so happy for him.”

Following her split with Jonas, Culpo was briefly linked to NFL quarterback Tim Tebow. According to Hey! Newsthe couple started dating sometime in September 2015 and did their best to keep their romance under the radar while they got to know each other.

Regardless, they reportedly soured on the relationship by that November, sources told TMZ that the couple never actually dated. According to media reports, they hung out with groups of mutual friends after meeting at church, but never had solo dates.

By the way, in January 2020, Tebow married another brunette Miss Universe, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.

Danny Amendola

Culpo and then-New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola first became Instagram official in February 2016. By March 2018, Culpo confirmed the couple had split, but they appeared to reconcile at a mutual friend’s wedding that June.

In October 2018, Amendola was spotted getting close to CBS Sports reporter Bianca Peters while he and Culpo were reportedly still together. A source told PEOPLE at the time, “Danny and Olivia haven’t officially split. Danny is playing both sides. He says the day with Bianca was just fun. She’s a reporter, he’s a soccer player. I mean in his mind he’s been caught so he’s trying to disperse it.”

The insider noted that Culpo and Amendola were clearly on two different pages when it came to their relationship, saying, “Danny never looked at Olivia as an exclusive girlfriend.”

In early November 2018, Culpo posted an Instagram Story wearing a Rolex that was speculated to have been bought for Amendola’s birthday, with the caption: “Looks like this is my present now. HAPPY BIRTHDAY.” Despite the announcement, Culpo and Amendola appeared to have reconciled by New Year’s Eve, though neither confirmed a rekindling, and their relationship ended for good by April 2019.

Culpo was first linked to Zedd in April 2019 after TMZ shared a video of a DJ and a model dancing with their arms around each other to Ariana Grande’s “God Is a Woman” at Coachella. He was also at her birthday party in May 2019, and reports say he was by her side during a dinner in her honor.

Although the love affair was apparently short-lived, it received a lot of publicity due to Amendola’s reaction. After Culpo and Zedd got cozy at Coachella, Amendola took to Instagram to throw shade at the “True Colors” hitmaker. He later posted a lengthy rant on Instagram, calling Culpo a “fuck” and saying her desire for publicity doomed their relationship; he also called Zedd a “scrony”. [sic] fuck you.” Amendola later deleted the diatribe and wrote, “People won’t often remember what you said, they’ll remember how you made them feel.”

Culpo is currently engaged to San Francisco 49ers player Christian McCaffrey after breaking one of her cardinal rules with him: “Never without an athlete again.”

“He’s just the best, I feel like he’s really everything I could ever want, so I never have to worry about anything,” she told Party tonight in November 2022 “I think that was the reason I didn’t want to date an athlete, no offense, because there’s a reputation.”

Culpo was first linked to McCaffrey in 2019 after liking one of her Instagram posts. The couple ended up making their red carpet debut at the NFL Honors in February 2020.

On April 2, 2023, McCaffrey proposed to Culpo after nearly four years of dating. The former Miss Universe posted an Instagram post about the milestone, including a photo of the 49ers running back on one knee.

Culpo discussed her future with McCaffrey during one episode The Culpo Sistersexplaining that she and the runner are not yet ready to have children.

“I’ve talked to Christian and we’re on the same page about having kids, we both want to have kids, but the timeline for that is something that’s not in the foreseeable future,” she said. “He’s completely and utterly focused on football and he should be. He’s not ready to have kids. It’s not really an option.”

Culpo also revealed that she feels like she has a “ticking time bomb” when it comes to her fertility, given her endometriosis diagnosis and the couple’s four-year age difference.

In January 2024, McCaffrey’s football team secured its spot in Super Bowl LVIII.

“You deserve it all Christian,” Culpo wrote on Instagram after the 49ers beat the Detroit Lions. “I love you so much.”
