John Mulaney didn’t get a homemade birthday cake this year — but his wife, Olivia Munn, suggested it would be for the best.
On Monday, August 26, Munn, 44, shared a photo of the cake she bought her husband to celebrate his 42nd birthday. However, unlike the 2023 treat she gave the comedian, she didn’t make this one herself.
A picture shared on the actress’ Instagram stories showed a cake with what appeared to be chocolate frosting on it and the words “Happy Birthday,” while another was covered in white frosting and had “John John!” written on it. Both desserts had four red candles.
“I didn’t have the energy to make a (bad) birthday cake this year so I went to the grocery store,” Munn captioned the video.

She then shared another photo on her Instagram Stories showing last year’s offering, while Justin Bieber’s 2015 hit “Sorry” played in the background.
“Last year,” Munn wrote alongside a photo of a messy cake with white frosting, lots of sprinkles and happy birthday candles on top. The star added a melting face emoticon.
Last year, Munn revealed that her and Mulaney’s son, Malcolm Hiep, 2, had destroyed a birthday cake she was working on.
Sharing a clip on her Instagram stories at the time, Munn said: “I tried to make a four layer birthday cake and the bottom layer is coming out.”
“Like and subscribe for more baking tips,” she joked in the caption as she stopped Malcolm from grabbing a knife lying next to the cake in the post. That didn’t stop the youngster from getting his hands on the frosting, though — the actress also shared a photo of his hand next to a large handmade dent in the cake.

Despite the candy not being the prettiest, Munn insisted, “The cake was delicious. Ugly. Success!”
Last month, Malcolm wished his mum a happy birthday as the actress spoke to camera as she celebrated her 44th birthday.
“Happy birthday mom!” the little one said in a video shared on Instagram.
“Oh my God! Thank you so much, you’re the sweetest,” Munn replied, adding: “Can you say ‘I love you, mom’”
“I love you so much,” Malcolm told her, as the proud mom replied, “I do your so many.”

After Munn’s birthday this year, she and Mulaney tied the knot in a simple, intimate ceremony at a friend’s home in upstate New York, a source close to Mulaney told PEOPLE. Only their son and a witness were present.
