Olivia Rodrigo Accidentally Followed Her Ex on Social Media When ‘Stalking’ Him: ‘I Have a Finsta Now’

Olivia Rodrigo lived the nightmare of every curious ex!

The three-time Grammy-winning singer/songwriter appeared on Thursday The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon where she revealed that she once caused a stir on social media by following her ex-boyfriend on Instagram while checking his page.

“I once had a very awkward encounter where I stalked my ex as he does. He’s suing me, sorry,” said 20-year-old Rodrigo. “And I happened to follow him because I was stalking him!”

Her unhappiness is made even more visible by the fact that Rodrigo doesn’t follow anyone on Instagram, a decision she made long ago to help her stay off social media. “I was only following one person so it was super obvious that I was following him,” she said.

The “Drivers Licence” singer didn’t notice at first, but her friend certainly did, running into her room and saying, “Did you mean to follow him? Unfollow him!”

But things went from bad to worse when Rodrigo rushed to hit the Unfollow option and her phone buzzed as soon as she opened the Instagram app.

“I couldn’t find a charger so I just followed my ex for a while,” the star recalled, joking, “People were like, ‘Oh my God, she’s been hacked!’ And I said: ‘Yes, guys, take care! Get your two-factor authentication on, guys.’ ”

Rodrigo won’t do that anymore. She told Fallon, 49, that she now has a secret Instagram account (colloquially known as “a Finsta”) that protects her from just such things. She noted that the account allows you to “just lurk and be curious.”
