Olly Murs lands huge new ITV talent show role after he was axed from The Voice

OLLY MURS has been handed a TV lifeline after landing a spot on The Masked Singer panel.

The pop star was kicked off The Voice last month after six years as a coach on the talent show.

But I can reveal that ITV didn’t leave him on the bench for long.

After a series of diary clashes for Rita Ora, Olly will now cover her place alongside Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan in the next series of The Masked Singer.

A TV source said: “The booking will encourage Olly.

His exit from The Voice came as a shock, so knowing that ITV still rates him and wants him on the channel will be such a boost.

“It’s a sign that they see him as part of the family and will consider him for future projects.

“Of course, Olly is a professional when it comes to music, and he also has a lot of experience as a TV judge.

“Besides, the audience already loves him. It all makes perfect sense.”

It came after the singer told The Sun he was “gutted” to hear The Voice didn’t want him back.

He said last month: “They called me to say I wasn’t coming back to the show, and it was a bit of a shock, to be honest. I didn’t expect that.

“He’ll find someone great, I’m sure.

“But will I miss him? Yes.

“Did I want to leave? Not. Will I still watch the series?

“Of course, but it will hurt to think that it could have been me…”

It comes after I previously revealed that comedy great Jennifer Saunders will also be filling in for Rita, who was forced to sit out some episodes after committing to other work projects.

About the clash, Rita said: “I’m sorry I missed some episodes.

“But my seat is being warmed by some great guest panelists, who I’m told are both super-competitive and will keep the others on their toes.”

CALL HIM BEN FUR

BEN FOGLE and Dwanye Fields return to our screens tonight in the second part of their Race To The Pole adventure.

But despite months having passed since the adventurers’ Arctic journey, they’re still finding fur in the most unlikely of places, thanks to their Edwardian research equipment.

Ben said: “There were days when we were pulling the fur out of our eyes – we still find it in our hatches.”

Endurance: Race To The Pole With Ben Fogle continues tonight at 9pm on Channel 5.

TURNER & POOCH

SOPHIE TURNER returns to the 1980s in her new role as a jewel thief – and she’s taking a cute little friend along for the ride.

She was seen filming in Spain with her dog in a bag on her shoulder on the set of new ITVX drama Joan.

Behind large, retro-style sunglasses, the Game of Thrones actress played real-life crime boss Joan Hannington.

The drama, which is expected to air later this year, follows her journey to one of the country’s most notorious thieves.

Sophie was sensational as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, so I expect big things when the new drama finally hits our screens.

IN STEP WITH KASH

WITH a fortune of over £1.6 billion, the Kardashians have no need to try to save money.

But that doesn’t stop Kim from watching every penny.

In Sky’s House of Kardashian documentary, Caitlyn Jenner revealed that when she helped stepdaughter Kim move into her first home, the reality star and businesswoman went by turning off the lights to save on the bills.

She said: “Kim rented her first flat on the other side of town.

“I was the mover, this was her apartment, she paid for it.

“As a parent, I told the kids, ‘Come on guys, turn on the light in the room and leave it on for hours, I’m paying the electric bill.’

“As we were leaving, Kim went around and turned off all the lights, because now she was paying for it.

“I was dying of laughter. She watches every penny.”

House Of Kardashian is available to stream NOW.

JACOB’S ROLE IN FUZZ

JACOB FORTUNE-LLOYD was delighted to be cast in new crime series Bodies – but he wasn’t so happy with his character’s facial hair.

The Queen’s Gambit actor plays detective Karl Whiteman in the thriller, which will be available from October 19 on Netflix, and is set in London over four periods.

But he did not struggle with the complex scenario, based on the graphic novel of the same name, but had to grow a mustache. Karl said: “It took me a while to convince me.

“I thought, ‘I have to wear this outside of work for months.’

“We live in the age of mustaches, but that pencil mustache is a serious look.

“I was a bit socially awkward.”
