Online Searches for 'Gynecologist Definition' Surged After Barbie Movie

The Barbie the film’s iconic final line — which features Margot Robbie’s Mattel doll coming to life at a doctor’s appointment, proudly saying, “I’m here to see my gynecologist” — sparked Internet interest in what exactly a gynecologist does.

Although the film may have sparked more interest in learning more about gynecological care, the study notes that “searches for information about gynecologists did not translate into searches for new gynecological care. No changes were observed for search terms reflecting a broader health interest (eg, doctor’s appointment searches), supporting the assumption that the observed increase in gynecologist-related searches may have been driven by the release of the film rather than other factors.”

As Gerwig said, she included the line not only as a “mic drop joke” but also as a way to normalize gynecological care for young women, calling it a “very emotional” scene.
