WHEN you first look at this optical illusion, you may not realize that it contains more than one triangle.
In fact, the image consists of several triangles, many more than you might think at first glance, and only a fraction of the population can see them all.

TikTok personality Hectic Nick shared the excitement and it quickly went viral, garnering 1.6 million views and over 135,000 comments.
Wearing sunglasses, the mysterious content creator showed a confusing image of a triangle and told viewers to focus.
“Only one percent of people can get it right,” Nick said. “How many triangles are in this image?”
He gave viewers a few moments to study the image.
“It sounds simple, but it’s not easy,” he joked. The large primary triangle was immediately visible, as were some smaller triangles towards the top, but the rest of the image filled in with other shapes.
“Tell me how many you think there are,” Nick implored the onlookers.
TikTok users opened up the comments section, eager to share their guesses.
“Look at the upper shapes,” one onlooker tried to explain. “It’s a triangle and there are three.”
Another claimed that the sum was only one. “The rest are incomplete squares or triangles,” the commenter said.
The most popular guess was four, while many viewers also said they counted either seven or 15 triangles in the illusion.
One viewer said that he saw three triangles, then commented again and changed his guess to four.
Guys, it’s one, wrote an outraged viewer. “It’s just cut off.”
All of these assumptions were actually less than the number of triangles contained in the image.
Other spectators crossed the threshold, hitting 24, 42 or even more than 100 triangles.
To find the correct answer, remember that you can make triangles out of smaller shapes.
They don’t all have to be equilateral triangles, either. Some will have narrow bases and longer sides.
Are you ready for the final countdown?
The number of triangles contained in the image is eighteen.
If you find it difficult to count them all, treat the lines in the image as a grid and build triangles of different sizes row by row and column by column.
And if you got the answer right away, congratulations – you’ve earned bragging rights when you share the illusion with your friends!
