The image shared on Reddit looks like a normal photo of a waterfall at first glance.

But look again and you may have a hard time figuring out which way the water flows in the river.

If you look at the image on the right, it appears as if the water is flowing to the left side of the image.

However, if you start from the left side of the image, it appears to go in the other direction.

The image was shared on Reddit, where it left users equally confused, with many convinced that water must flow “both ways.”

“Down the hill, from right to left, while the white water is downstream,” another suggested.

The image is an example of an “ambiguous illusion”, where images can change from one object to another as a person’s perception changes.

The viewer is left to discover the direction of the water as the image has no depth and no direction from the surrounding environment.
