Optical illusion uses trick that makes it IMPOSSIBLE to solve simple puzzle

AN INCREDIBLE optical illusion has resurfaced on Reddit and has left users baffled.

The illusion seems quite simple at first glance, it only consists of gray cubes and green lines.

However, if you look closely, you’ll notice that some of the lines look curved before they look straight again.

Viewers are challenged to point out the curved lines in the image, a task that is much more difficult than it seems.

There doesn’t seem to be any way to ‘solve’ the puzzle whichever way you look at it.

That’s because the illusion relies on a strategic arrangement of colors and shapes to trick your brain.

Scientists have previously explained that the illusion can occur when your brain guesses what’s happening in an image while you’re only looking at a part of it.

Illusionist Michael Bach offered an explanation on his blog.

He wrote: “This brilliant design is by illustrator Lesh Porche (USA). When it appeared it went viral and I thank Jeremy Hinton of Lilac Hunters for alerting me.

“My explanation is this: “The tiles contain a low-resolution luminance curve, which is masked by all the boundaries.

“It can be made more noticeable by applying a small amount of blur (4–5). Blur happens automatically in our visual system because, mostly imperceptibly, our visual resolution drops rapidly from the center of view: with an eccentricity of 10 ° our visual acuity is 1/10 of the central one.

“However, the periphery doesn’t ‘feel’ blurry, right? Its sharpness is ‘invented’ by our visual system, just like our blind spots are ‘filled in.’

Bach’s theory suggests that the lines of the illusion are not actually curved the way your brain tells you.

However, a popular comment on Reddit expresses another theory.

The comment explains: “In this image, there are subtle lines in the gray squares, where the mini squares are smaller and more compact.

“They’re gray, of course they’re not green, but your peripheral vision isn’t that good for green cones, so your brain fills in the lines in some of these irregularly dense lines.

“To see it by looking in the center and without moving your eyes, try to visualize one of the curved lines in your peripheral vision… when you think you’re sure there is one, look closely at that area and you’ll see subtle changes.” firmness in the little squares that follow the pattern of lines you saw.

Many other Reddit users took to the comments section to express their concern about not being able to crack the illusion.

One joked: “I need new eyes after this.”

Another exclaimed: “Got it! No curved green lines, the patterns just have bright dots that look like curves.”
