Orange alert in parts of Kerala and Puducherry

The Tamil Nadu government has ordered the closure of all government and private schools in Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Viruthunagar, Pudhukottai and Niligiri districts due to forecasted heavy rains. The IMD issued a red alert for Pathanamthitta district in Kerala state on November 22. Shibu, Collector of Pathanamthitta district, issued an order on November 24 banning night traffic between 7 pm and 6 am, as well as tourist activities like kayaking and boating in the hilly areas of the district.
The notice has been issued because there is a possibility of intense, steady rain, which could cause mudslides, landslides and localized minor flooding. Travelers visiting Sabarimala are encouraged to be cautious and alert, especially at night, due to a red alert issued in the district. An orange alert has also been issued for November 23 in Thiruvananthapuram and Idukki districts. Thiruvananthapuram district is a mountainous terrain and many highways were flooded due to heavy downpour. The IMD has also issued a yellow alert in all other districts, with the exception of Kannur and Kasaragod districts in Kerala.
During the next five days, Kerala may experience light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning due to cyclonic circulations over Tamil Nadu, according to the weather service. An IMD press release said thundershowers, light to moderate rain and gusty winds are possible at one or two locations in the state’s Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram districts today. , Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur.
