Outer Banks Ending: Where John B & Sarah Are Heading Next

Warning! Major spoilers for Outer Banks season 1 below.

Season 1 of the drama Outer Banks revolves around the romance between star-crossed lovers John B and Sarah; where will the show take their relationship next? The Netflix series sends its teen characters on a wild goose chase for treasure, and it looks like the hunt will be taking them to the Bahamas if the show returns for season 2. Outer Banks offers its fair share of a Netflix’s show’s signature teen drama: John B and Sarah, two teens from different socioeconomic classes on a small island, defy the odds and fall in love. Their love story becomes entangled in a search for treasure.

At the beginning of Outer Banks season 1, John B is still reeling from the disappearance of his dad, Big John. His dad spent years hunting for the shipwrecked Royal Merchant, which was carrying $400 million in gold at the time of its crash. The last time John B saw his dad, Big John told him he made progress in tracking down the ship and would be gone for a while. John B never saw his dad again. Early in season 1 of Outer Banks, John B discovers a clue to the ship’s location, which he believe will help him track down his dad. He and his friends, largely played by relative newcomers, set off on a hunt for the treasure.

Once John B begins dating Sarah, she becomes involved in the treasure hunt. Their search for the Royal Merchant’s treasure takes them to dangerous locations and situations around the island. But it looks like the Netflix teen thriller will be taking this search to global proportions.

John B and Sarah are Headed to the Bahamas

The final episodes Outer Banks season 1 revealed that Sarah’s dad Ward accidentally killed Big John. They were teammates in the search for the Royal Merchant’s treasure. When Big John finally tracked down the location of the hidden treasure, the two men fought over how they would divide it. In a rage over not getting the share of the treasure he thinks he deserved, Ward accidentally killed Big John. Ward scooped up the treasure and hid it on the island. John B and his friends eventually find the treasure and discover Ward’s secret.

Ward quickly recovers the treasure and intends to send it on a cargo plane to the Bahamas for safe keeping. As the plane is about to take off, John B and his friends confront Ward with the Sheriff. Ward’s son fatally shoots the Sheriff, and the plane manages to take off with the gold. The murder is pinned on John B. While the cops are hunting him down, he and Sarah slip away on a boat during a massive storm. The ship sinks, and everyone believes them to be dead. But another ship comes across the young couple and picks them up. That ship happens to be headed towards the Bahamas, which is exactly where they need to be. Should Outer Banks be picked up for a second season, audiences will see John B and Sarah searching for the gold on a new island.
