Paddy Aubrey News

Jamie Tarses’ legacy will endure. With the assistance of Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and the backing of Tarses’ family, FanFare, the production firm founded by the pioneering TV executive and producer who passed away a year ago at age 56, will carry on in memory of her lasting influence on the television business.

FanFare will be managed by McCrae Dunlap, who served as Tarses’ executive and led the business both while she was in the hospital and after her death in February 2021. With Tarses’ estate and Dunlap as co-owners, Kapital has acquired a stake in the new iteration of FanFare for future initiatives. Kapital will provide logistical support, including offices, overhead, and development funding.

The Wilds on Prime Video and The Mysterious Benedict Society on Disney+ are two current shows produced by FanFare, with Tarses listed posthumously as executive producer on both. About a dozen projects from Tarses are now under development at the company, the majority of them through Sony Pictures TV. These projects include shows for Apple TV+ and TBS. Although Dunlap is a producer on the development slate, all pre-existing series and ongoing projects are not included in the Kapital agreement.

Soon after Tarses’ fatal cardiac attack in October 2020, Sony TV, where FanFare had been based for a substantial portion of its existence, and inked a new one-year contract with the company. After that arrangement expired, Kaplan spoke with Paddy Aubrey, Dunlap and Tarses’ longstanding business partner, about continuing FanFare.

Kaplan, a close friend of Tarses’ for a very long time, was already working behind the scenes for the business. Following Tarses’ injury, Kaplan and Wendi Trilling, whose TrillTV has a producing deal with Kapital, both assisted in guiding the FanFare slate. They worked on numerous projects, including the HBO Max pilot OK Boomer, without receiving payment or credit.

Jamie was “a crucial part of television history” because she was the first woman to lead a broadcast network entertainment division, according to Kaplan. “She set the path for a lot of people who came after her with her enthusiasm for substance, connection to the creative process, and dedication to excellence. The pioneers of our industry, the legends, ought to be revered and remembered forever. Our dedication to FanFare gives Jamie and her legacy the chance to continue to be a part of the amazing creative community that she adored.

When discussing his future ambitions for FanFare, Dunlap, who has worked there for five and a half years—first as Tarses’ assistant and later as her executive—echoed that attitude.
