According to reports, on May 15, 2022, Pallavi Dey was found dead in a rented apartment in Garfa, Kolkata. She was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her room, according to police. Investigating officials said in an official statement,
The actor was found hanging from a ceiling fan by a bed sheet. The incident occurred around 9:30 am. A case of unnatural death has been registered. “
As soon as the police reached the spot, she was rushed to Sir Bangur Hospital, Kolkata, where she was declared brought dead. Based on preliminary investigation, the police suspected that Pallavi committed suicide. Investigators said in interviews with the media,
At first glance, this appears to be a case of suicide. However, the final conclusion cannot be made until the autopsy report is released. We have started an investigation after a case of unnatural death was filed. “
The police also questioned Sagnik Chakraborty (Pallavi’s boyfriend) who told the police that he had gone out to buy some cigarettes from the market and when he returned, he found the door locked from inside. He broke the door and found Pallavi’s body hanging from the fan. He immediately reported the incident to the police.
While the police suspected it was a suicide, Pallavi’s family claimed it was a murder. Her father Nilu Dey said while talking to media persons,
Her partner was married to someone else two years ago and we only found out about it six months ago. There is also a girl who is very close to him who often causes problems in their relationship. We do not know who saw her hanging. “
They told police that Chakraborty forced Pallavi to pay for a flat they bought in Rajahat. However, Chakraborty’s mother, while denying the allegations, said,
Pallavi’s parents claimed that we bought the flat in Rajarhat with her money. Pallavi made no contribution. We have paid Rs 43 lakh in cash and paid the remaining amount through loan. “
Her parents also claimed that Chakraborty was financially dependent on their daughter Pallavi. The two of them bought a luxury apartment in New City worth Rs. 60 lakhs (at the expense of Pallavi Dey).
However, Sagnik’s parents denied all the accusations and said there were never any major issues between Pallavi and Sagnik. Sagnik’s mother said in an interview with media personnel,
They used to live together. Although we don’t fully support it, because they are adults, we allow them. Several times I asked Sagnik to move elsewhere and we started living together after we got married. They don’t have any major issues. I don’t know what happened. ”
Later, Pallavi’s father filed a complaint against Sagnik with the Kolkata police, accusing him and a woman of killing his daughter. Based on a complaint from Pallavi’s father, Sagnik was summoned to the Garfa police station on May 16, 2022, where he was interrogated for about 18 hours. He was later arrested for withholding material information about his employment and financial investments with Day. According to Atul V., Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of Kolkata Police’s South Suburban Division, Sagnik Chakraborty has been booked in the IPC for murder, fraud, breach of trust, criminal conspiracy and dishonest misappropriation of property. He further said that the arrest was based on financial fraud committed by Chakraborty. Speaking to media persons about Chakraborty, the investigating officer said:
Several inconsistencies were found in Chakraborty’s statements about his job and sources of income. We found out he closed his Salt Lake City office a week before the victim’s death and is currently unemployed. However, when we asked him about his profession, he didn’t say that. “
Pallavi’s autopsy report showed no signs of injury and confirmed that the actress committed suicide.
News of her death came as a shock to her co-stars and fans. Many of her co-stars took to social media to mourn her passing. Her “Mon Mane Na Samm” co-star expressed his anguish on his Instagram account. He wrote,
I have no words to justify what I witnessed today. Such an event would be unthinkable even in our wildest dreams. “
He further said,
You will always be my first screen wife. No one becomes Rudra’s guri. “
