News about Pandora Sykes

If there’s anyone whose book recommendations we can trust when looking for a wonderful book to read, it’s Pandora Sykes. She will serve as a judge for the 2022 Women’s Fiction Award, as well as host The High Low podcast.

That’s what makes his latest adventure so intriguing. Two weeks after Sykes renewed our Stylist Live reading recommendations, he announced that he would soon be creating a new podcast entirely dedicated to books.

Isaac And The Egg author Bobby Palmer and Sykes will host the event, which will be called Book Talk (fantastic name). The podcast will do “what it says on the tin,” according to the trailer. In each episode, Sykes and Palmer will bring a book, after which they will talk.

Books must be at least two years old and that is the only restriction. That’s right, these two will be talking about beloved novels that are already on their shelves, and probably yours, too. There will be no new releases, hype reads, or top 10 hits here.

The idea is to look at books that we may have bought years ago and totally forgot we had, instead of running out and buying the latest edition of whatever is on our Instagram feed. Alternatively, we can borrow a book from a friend or buy it used.

And we’ll only release an episode once a month in this environment of constant consumption and cultural overload, says Sykes. “At the end of each episode, we will announce our books for the next episode.” Think of it like a traditional book club, just in podcast form and featuring Bobby Palmer and Pandora Sykes. That sounds good to us.

The first edition of the podcast will be available on December 1; subsequent episodes will follow the first of each subsequent month. Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the Town is the first book Sykes should check out of the library, while Sarah Winman’s The Tin Man is Bobby’s choice. Browse their bookshelves or head straight to the library for a copy of Sykes’s original pick, Armistead Maupin’s Town Tales and Palmer’s pick, Sarah Winman’s The Tin Man.
