After moving to Mumbai from Rajasthan, he started working as an imitation jewelery salesman on local trains in Mumbai. He used to spend his nights sleeping outside shops in Mumbai’s Kalachoki area. As time passed, he began working as a real estate agent in the early 1980s. Pramod Jathar, a BJP secretary and former MP from Kankavli assembly constituency, mentioned in a media talk that Gundecha developers offered Paras his first commission for the sale of apartments in the project. He came from humble beginnings. Initially, he sold imitation jewelry on trains and slept outside shops in Kalachochi. Slowly, he started a real estate brokerage business. Around 1985, Paras Gundecha of Gundecha Developers (also of Jalore) gave him his first commission to sell apartments in a project. “
Thereafter, Paras S. Powar started selling plots in Mumbai and started working in a construction company. He began supplying floor tiles to other developers. A major opportunity in his career came in 1998 when he got a redevelopment project called Bawalawadi Redevelopment Project opposite Voltas Tower in Parel, which was awarded to him by Paras Gundecha. He was then a resident of Balewadi Chawls. Pramod Jattar said,
I am the secretary of the Char Association. Pallas offered to find a developer to redevelop the cabins. Later we decided to redevelop it ourselves. “
In the same discussion, Pramod Jathar said that in the 1990s, the state government revised the Development Control Ordinance policy and this amendment allowed the redevelopment of old buildings owned by the BMC. Soon after the amendment was announced, Paras S Porwal and Pramod Jathar started working with the BMC Improvement Committee. Porwal is known for undertaking many large redevelopment projects such as the Kach Kharkhana project in Wadala and the Prerna Society redevelopment project at Sasmira Institute Road in Worli Naka.

In 2004, Paras S Porwal contested the assembly elections on a Samajwadi Party ticket from Mazgaon assembly constituency in Mumbai. His opponent Bala Nandgaonkar (who later joined Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) won the election defeated him. Two contestants of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) from Mazgaon Assembly constituency, Nandgaonkar (Shiv Sena) and Chhagan Bhujbal’s son Pankaj, are Porwal’s opponents. He received 7,888 votes in the election.

Mumbai police booked him for listing 62 fake companies in Gandhi Nagar project in Worli, Mumbai. He created these fake companies to obtain additional “floor space index” from the state government.

At 6 am on October 20, 2022, Paras S Porwal jumped from the 21st floor of Shanti Kamal Cooperative Housing Society in south Mumbai, India. His body was seen lying in a pool of blood by the priest of a temple built on the association’s grounds. Paras is the owner of this society and the building was constructed by his company Om Shanti Universal Private Ltd. After his death, an Accidental Death Report (ADR) was filed with the Kalachoki Police Department. Police reports say Paras jumped from the gym area of his home and left a suicide note before his death. He wrote several pages of his diary for his family in Hindi and Gujarati. The police stated,
When we searched his house, we found a “suicide note” in the gym area that said “No one is responsible for my death and no one should be questioned about it.” The note also contained some words of guidance for his son Ronnie. “
Police said Paras S Porwal committed suicide and was rushed to a nearby hospital, but died on arrival. The police stated,
A priest at the temple heard a loud bang and then saw Povar lying in a pool of blood. The priest immediately notified his family and Povar was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. “
His funeral was attended by several prominent political leaders in Mumbai such as Kalidas Kolambkar of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Ajay Chaudhry of Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena and Dagadu Sakpal.

- Paras S Porwal was known for his kindness towards the residents of the reconstructed society. According to one of his close associates, Porwal sought permission from the tenants and the BMC before starting the redevelopment project. Only after receiving these approvals does he sell the projects to larger construction companies. For example, on one occasion, Porwal acted as a mediator to sell the Prerna Society redevelopment project to Sugee Developers, exiting the project.
- One of his family members narrated in a media talk that Paras S. Powar was a disciple of Rajasthan saint Shanti Suri Maharaj. All of his construction companies are reportedly named after his religious mentors. In the initial years of his career, he named his first construction company “Om Shanti Construction Private Limited” after his mentor.
- At his corporate office in East Byculla, Mumbai, he has over 50 employees. After his death, one of his employees revealed a list of projects Povard was working on before his suicide. The employee stated,
He has projects in Aambewadi, Kalachowkie, Jijamata Nagar, Subhedar Nagar, Worli and two projects in Chembur and Mahim. “
- Paras S Porwal was a popular and generous philanthropist who used to donate large amounts of money to various mandals during religious functions, especially during festivals. Some of his employees explained Povard’s helpful nature in interviews with the media. Powar was a regular contributor to Ganpati and Navratrotsav Mandals, they said. In 2016, he established a charitable trust called Paras Powar Charitable Trust, which regularly provides help and food to the poor and needy on the streets of Mumbai.

Jadhav mentioned in a media discussion that Porwal started his career as a small real estate agent and gradually created a business empire Om Shanti Group with his dedication and hard work. Later, Paras S Porwal founded several subsidiaries of Om Shanti Group.
- According to reports, Paras S Porwal is a prosperous builder whose notable works include redevelopment assignments of many municipal plots such as Mumbai Slum Redevelopment Authority (SRA) projects. He is the owner of 23 real estate companies, and his son Ronnie works at 10 of them.
- After the death of Paras S Porwal on October 20, 2022, police narrated his suicide note in front of his family members. In the note, Paras mentioned the names of his family members and some advice for them. He advised his wife and son not to take on construction projects related to the Slum Redevelopment Authority (SRA); instead, he told them to only accept private development projects. He wrote in his suicide note that no one should be held responsible for his death. According to police, an SRA project was under construction at Jijamata Nagar in Worli when he died.
