She collapsed while getting out of the water and was immediately helped by the staff.

Potock was then pulled out of the arena with an oxygen mask.

The hall manager quickly confirmed that he was conscious and under medical evaluation.

According to BBC Sport, the Slovakian national team explained that she had an asthma attack.

Eight swimmers had already gone to the blocks for the next race while Potocka was being treated, but were returned to their seats when race organizers learned the extent of what was happening.

Commentators watched in horror as the incident unfolded. One person said: “This doesn’t look good… 15,000 people are now watching an athlete surrounded by medical staff and I can assure you there is complete silence here.

“They pulled out a stretcher, put an oxygen mask on the athlete, and I’ll say… this looks very serious

“They have a brace around the neck so I can only imagine that someone has hit their head and has some kind of trauma – they want to immobilize the athlete. Hopefully it’s nothing more than that…”
