Partha Chatterjee or Partha Chattopadhyay was born on Monday, October 6, 1952 (age 70 years 2022) from Kolkata, West Bengal, India. His zodiac sign is Libra. After attending Ramakrishna Vidyalaya Mission in Narendrapur, he attended New Alipore Multipurpose School in Kolkata. He received his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Calcutta University in 1982. In 2006, Partha Chatterjee contested and won the Behalasi parliamentary seat, defeating CPM candidate Niranjan Chatterjee by 5,727 votes. From September 21, 2006 to May 13, 2011, he served as the leader of the opposition in the Left Front government led by the Communist Party of Malaya.

In July 2022, Chatterjee and his assistant Arpita Mukherjee were arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the West Bengal teacher recruitment scam. The SSC and Elementary Education Board scams allegedly took place when Chatterjee was the state education minister. He faces corruption charges for securing job offers in exchange for money from candidates with lower scores rather than those who made the merit list. After being arrested by the Education Department, he was dismissed from the West Bengal government department on July 28, 2022.
