“I don’t want to get into it too much, but he does a good job no matter the situation,” the quarterback said of his father, Patrick Mahomes Sr.
Patrick Mahomes is speaking out after his father, Patrick Mahomes Sr., was arrested on DWI charges.
“He’s doing well,” the Kansas City Chiefs running back, 28, He said on opening night of the Super Bowl. “I don’t want to get into it too much, but he does a good job regardless of the situation.”
He added: “It’s a family thing. I’m just going to keep it family, and that’s all I really have to say at this point.”
Jail records show Mahomes Sr., 53, was arrested in Tyler, Texas on Saturday and booked into the Smith County Jail. He was released the next day on $10,000 bail.

Records also revealed it was his third drunken driving arrest. The former MLB pitcher was previously charged with DWI in 2018 and 2019. According to Smith County court records, Mahomes Sr. pleaded guilty to the 2018 charge and served 40 days in jail over the weekend.
Mahomes Sr. did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
The arrest comes ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl LVIII, where Mahones and the Chiefs battle to defend their 2023 title against the San Francisco 49ers. Although he doesn’t play until Sunday, the festivities begin at the beginning of the week.
Held at Allegiant Stadium, site of next week’s playoffs, Monday’s opening night had the Chiefs and 49ers taking questions from the media and entertaining the crowd with skits.

“It builds and sets the tone for the whole week. It is the biggest stage in the world. Monday night is going to be where it all starts for everybody,” Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce told CBS. “At this point, I just love it, it’s an exciting time. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing that I’ve been able to enjoy several times.”
