Patrick Mahomes Says ‘I’m Just a Regular Quarterback’ After Wife Brittany Interrupts His Parade Speech

Patrick Mahomes wins the Kansas City Chiefs fourth Super Bowl.

During Wednesday’s Super Bowl victory parade in the Chiefs’ hometown, the quarterback, 28, celebrated his third championship victory by giving a shout-out to his teammates and their “underrated” defense.

“Kansas City, let me hear you once!” he began his speech.

“Man, what a year. To fight through adversity. To keep going. To go to that championship. Everybody doubted us. I don’t want to hear any different. But you know who ended up coming through? It’s the Kansas City Chiefs. I just want to thank everybody here , because Chiefs Kingdom, you all are the reason we do what we do,” Mahomes said.

His wife, Brittany Mahomes, interrupted him briefly to remind him that he was “just a quarterback.” She appeared to be referring to Tashaun Gipson Sr.’s comments, which he recorded Cinema Red Tribewhere the San Francisco 49ers safety says, “That’s just a normal fucking quarterback.”

“I’m just a full-back, that’s what it is,” he continued. “I have to praise that defense. Can I hear that for the defense? That’s crazy, a defense can win a Super Bowl and still be underrated, and that’s what those guys did. Can I get a shoutout for Harrison Butker? Can I get a shoutout for Tommy Townsend ? Can I get a shoutout for James Winchester?”

To end his speech, he promised to bring the title back to Kansas City in 2025. He said, “No, really, we appreciate everything you do, coming to Arrowhead every week. We know we have to continue on the road of last year, but I promise you next year we will be at home and we’re going for that three-peat, so don’t get me wrong, we’re doing it. Three times, the first time in NFL history, we’re doing it. We love you all.”

After the Chiefs beat the 49ers 25-22 in overtime, Mahomes hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy and won his second Super Bowl MVP title. In a postgame interview, when asked how he kept his composure to score the game-winning touchdown, the football star said it was a “microcosm” of their season. He went on to credit his team’s defense and “of course, Harrison Butker,” their forward who tied the game in the final 10 seconds of regulation with a field goal.

Mahomes then greeted Brittany and their two children, Sterling Skye, 3, and Patrick “Bronze” Lavon, 14 months. His mother Randi and brother Jackson also attended the game.

With this win, Mahomes became just the third quarterback to have three or more Super Bowl titles under his belt. (Tom Brady won seven, and 49ers legend Joe Montana won four, as did Terry Bradshaw with the Steelers.) The Chiefs became the eighth team in league history to defend the title and the first since the New England Patriots in 2005.

Patrick and Brittany Mahomes have a day of family fun at Disneyland after winning the 2024 Super Bowl.

As per NFL tradition, the quarterback took a victory lap with his family on Monday at the happiest place on earth: Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

“I enjoy it every time, and to go back to Disneyland again, after I went back last year, it’s a moment that I hope I will continue to repeat over and over again,” he said in an interview at the theme park. “The energy, the smiles, the love that I feel from everyone in the park – I mean, it’s really special, and it’s one of those moments that you’ll have forever.”
