Patrick Mahomes Screams and Curses After Penalty on Travis Kelce Play Leads to Chiefs Loss: ‘Embarrassing’

Patrick Mahomes has words for the refs who ruined Travis Kelce’s “legendary moment.”

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback showed uncharacteristic emotion — laced with expletives — on the sidelines after a controversial call that negated Kelce’s lateral pass that led to Kadarius Toney’s touchdown on Sunday.

After the referees overturned the score, saying Toney was offside, the Chiefs lost the game to the Buffalo Bills 20-17.

The decision, however, was something Mahomes could be heard calling “Fuck me horrible” and “Fuck me embarrassing” in the video clips. He then slammed his helmet to the ground and told Bills quarterback Josh Allen it was “the craziest fucking call I’ve ever seen.”

And in the postgame presser, Mahomes blamed the officiating for the Chiefs’ loss.

“I mean, obviously that’s a tough thing to swallow, not just for me, but for football in general. To take away size like that, for a guy like Travis to make a play like that, and who knows if we’re going to win,” the player said, via the team’s official transcript.

“I know as fans you want to see guys on the pitch deciding the game and that’s why I didn’t say anything last week about the flag not appearing on Marquez (Valdes-Scantling),” the full-back continued.

He added: “I mean, they’re human, they make mistakes, but every week we talk about something and all I can do is go out there and give everything I’ve got and I’m proud of the boys, that’s what he did for me and it was a great game of football that ended — another great football game that ended just like that, it’s just hard — hard to swallow.”

As it turned out, Mahomes wasn’t the only one upset about the outcome of the game. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid also expressed his displeasure with the call.

“I’m very disappointed it ended the way it did,” Reid said during the same postgame presser. “Usually I’ll get – I never use any of this as an excuse, but I usually get a warning before something like that happens in a big game. [It’s] It’s kind of embarrassing in the National Football League for that to happen.”
