Paul Giamatti Wore In-N-Out Cufflinks to the Oscars After His Viral Golden Globes Moment

Paul Giamatti had a lucky winner at the 2024 Oscars!

Nearly two months after going viral for celebrating his Golden Globe win at In-N-Out, Giamatti wore cufflinks emblazoned with the restaurant’s logo to Sunday’s ceremony.

The Best Actor nominee proudly rolled up his tuxedo sleeve to show off the smart tribute in a photo shared on stylist Michael Fisher’s Instagram page.

Fans also got an up-close look at the design on Cufflinks Depot’s Instagram page, which had them custom made for Giamatti. “Getting ready for the Oscars tonight? If you see Golden Globe winner and @theholdoversfilm star #paulgiamatti, take a close look at his cuff for these custom-made In-N-Out Burger cuffs,” the company captioned the photo.

In-N-Out is a staple of the awards show. Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel told PEOPLE it’s a “tradition” to go there after the show.

“I think part of the reason is that when people are in LA, one of the things on their list is to go to In-N-Out – and there are a lot of people who are in LA just for the Oscars – so they end up,” he said. Kimmel, who hosted the Oscars for the fourth time. “Also, get really hungry, so In-N-Out is definitely an award tradition. I have nothing against McDonald’s, but it’s In-N-Out on awards night.”

Giamatti paired his fun accessory with a classic black tuxedo and walked the red carpet with his girlfriend, Clara Wong. Although the award for best actor went away in the end Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy, In-N-Out has bought The Holdovers star a fair amount of luck.

After winning Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical at the 2024 Golden Globes, Giamatti was named Best Actor at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards.

In his acceptance speech, he joked about making headlines, saying, “Wow, people. I didn’t think my week could get any better than going viral for eating a cheeseburger. Seriously, guys, I need that support, so let’s all pray for me.”

The actor won praise for his role as boarding school teacher Paul Hunham. In December 2023, he told PEOPLE that he drew on personal experience for the role, having attended a boarding school “very similar” to the one in the film.

“There’s an abundance of things that I draw from my own past with this character,” Giamatti said.

The Billions the star was also recognized by co-star Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who told PEOPLE in January that “he’s a beautiful, amazing human being.”

“I think why people comment on the amazing chemistry and connection and tenderness that we have — number one, he’s a wonderful, amazing human being, even more than his acting is great. And that helps because it allows me to feel safe and comfortable, to be vulnerable around him and let my guard down,” Randolph said.

At Sunday’s ceremony, the actress won Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the film.
