Paul Simon News

The new album “Seven Psalms,” by Paul Simon, is a suite-like conceptual album with seven separate but connected songs, or “movements,” that is intended to be heard as a single 33-minute composition.

Since “Stranger to Stranger” in 2016 and “In the Blue Light” in 2018, which was an album of re-recordings of earlier songs, the May 19 release will be the first entirely new compilation he has released.

According to a title board at the conclusion of a trailer Simon has posted for the new album, the release will also include a companion documentary, “In Restless Dreams,” directed by Alex Gibney. There hasn’t yet been a formal announcement regarding that movie.

His wife, Edie Brickell, had a guest vocal performance on the album, which was entirely recorded on acoustic instruments with choral contributions from the British vocal ensemble VOCES8. Co-producing with the artist was Kyle Crusham.

Although there was no mention of a specific studio in the statement, Simon was reportedly producing new material at New York’s Reservoir Studios last year, according to people working in neighbouring studios.

On January 15, 2019, I had a dream that said, “You are working on a piece called ‘Seven Psalms’,”‘ Simon says in the album trailer. Because the dream was so vivid, I got up and wrote it down. However, I was unsure of what that meant.

Information would eventually arrive. The words would start to come to me between 3:30 and 5 a.m. two or three mornings a week, and I’d write them down before beginning to put the piece together.

“I like to work and then discover,” he says. It’s extremely fascinating, I must say. I constantly strive to move events in a way that makes you feel like you’re in a dream, and I believe that if you’re willing to do so, you’re also willing to suspend your better judgement.

“I need to finish this journey. This entire essay is actually just me debating whether or not to believe. Lyrics In the trailer, Simon may be heard singing, among other things: The face in the sky is that of the Lord. My record is produced by the Lord. “Hoping the gates won’t close before your forgiveness,” the song continues.

The documentary teaser also claims that the subject matter has to do with “how the scope of your belief always tends to be tied to the conception of your mortality.”
