Paul Simon’s musical career began at the age of eleven, when he performed with Simon and Garfunkel in the play ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Since then, they started playing as a rock duo under the nickname ‘Tom and Jerry’. ‘Our Song’ and ‘That’s My Story’ are two of the duo’s early successes. Clive Davis, CEO of Columbia Records, signed the pair for an album in 1964 after they satisfied him. Columbia Records signed the pair and released their debut full-length, ‘Wednesday Morning, 3 AM’ under their real name. Unfortunately, the record did not do well on the music charts. Simon traveled to Europe after the failure of the first album.
There he worked with Bruce Woodley from the Australian rock group ‘The Seekers’. They collaborated on many songs, including “Red Rubber Ball”, “I Wish You Could Be Here” and “Cloudy”. When he returned to the United States, a producer named Tom Wilson recreated his first album and released it as a single called “The Sound of Silence”. The record was a huge success. The second volume, ‘The Sounds of Silence’, was released and Simon collaborated again with Garfunkel. Simon started working in the film industry in 1980.
