People will comfort scared shelter animals while setting off fireworks instead of going out on July 4th

Dogs are afraid of fireworks or of light. Fireworks light up the sky over the United States on July 4th every year.

An animal shelter in Phoenix, Arizona found the solution. This is a really great idea.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control has started a project called “Calm Companions” that invites people to come and reassure dogs and cats during fireworks.

Nearly 200 people brought blankets and chairs to sit near the center’s dogs and cats. They did everything to distract the dogs’ attention.

They play music, read books, and grab their attention with everything they can. They give them food and sing songs.

The goal of this project was successful. Such events should be repeated.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control is working hard to achieve its goal of reuniting owners with their dogs and trying to find permanent homes for homeless dogs. If you want to adopt a dog or help, contact them.
