Pete Davidson Reveals Why His First 'Major' Fashion Purchase Is a ‘Reminder of How Stupid I Was’

Pete Davidson had to struggle to keep up with his wardrobe when he first came into the limelight.

In an interview with December 12 W Magazinethe Saturday night live alum, 31, recalled having to work harder to “pay off” the $875 Gucci shoes he bought at age 19 with the nearly $1,000 in compensation he earned working on the MTV show.

“I didn’t know about taxes or paying your team or anything,” he told the outlet.

The purchase wasn’t a total loss, though.

“I still have them,” Davidson revealed. “They’re sitting in my closet, a reminder of how stupid I was. When I was 19, it was all about ‘fit’ – that was all that mattered. Now it’s health, family, humility, being a good person, not being a drug addict. Things like that.” he said his shopping habits have improved as an adult.

Example: to a question New York Magazine earlier this month about what he bought with his first paycheck SNLof which he was a member from 2014 to 2022, Davidson said he used his “three grand” earnings for the dinner. Talk about sensible!

Davidson’s spending tendencies aren’t the only thing that has matured. He told about his style evolution W Magazine: “If you Google any picture of me from 20 to 27, it’s purple shirts, fedoras, all these chains and fucking stupid Rolexes. It doesn’t look cool at all. But I am very happy that I am 31 now. Looking back. I am happy that I finally woke up.”

His newfound outlook on fashion is what has led him to his latest gig as Doublesoul’s new creative director.

The Bodies Bodies Bodies star takes the reins at the hosiery brand, which has previously collaborated with models Ella Emhoff and Alex Consani.

“I’ve always dressed a little differently and people seem to like that. I’m definitely open to doing more things, but I love being behind the scenes. I’m not a big fan of celebrities pushing things on people. It’s a big turn off. To stand behind any brand, you have to be super delicate and precise. If you put it in the wrong way, it will break him,” he said of what drew him to the role.

For his debut at the biggest fashion night in September 2021, he wore a Thom Browne suit with a calf-length skirt. In May 2022, he attended alongside his then-girlfriend Kim Kardashian, who famously wore a Marilyn Monroe “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” dress.
