Pete Doherty reveals life changing health diagnosis after admitting he’s a ‘very sick man’

PETE Doherty has revealed he has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes as he continues to battle health problems.

The Libertines singer and guitarist (44) has spoken openly about his struggle with alcohol and drug abuse over the years, which has seen him arrested several times.

He previously said in a documentary with Louis Theroux that aired last year that he was a “very sick man” because of his lifestyle.

And in a new interview today with he revealed his recent diagnosis after turning to booze and cheese.

He explained to the Guardian’s Saturday magazine: “I gave up the main toxins and my health improved.

“Then they tell you that alcohol, cheese and sugar are just as bad, and you were healthier when you were on heroin.”

He admitted he was “a bit of a glutton” and added: “It’s no joke. I’ve been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

“And right now I lack the discipline to tackle my cholesterol.”

Pete and his wife Katia de Vidas had a baby girl named Billie-May Doherty last May.

The couple, who are in the band Puta Madres with Katia on keyboards and Pete as frontman, married in 2021. Pete also has a son and a daughter from previous relationships.

The Libertines are releasing their first new album in nine years, All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade, in April.

The four-piece – comprising Pete, Carl Barat, John Hassall on bass and Gary Powell on drums – previously released three albums between 2002 and 2015, including the hits Don’t Look Back Into The Sun and Can’t Stand Me Now.
