*With Deja Vu (“Uptown Baby”) from the 1990s, rappers Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz, born Peter Pankey, gave the Bronx the ultimate shout-out. His prior turbulent love triangle on “Love and Hip Hop,” in which he was involved with the stunning Tara Wallace, cheated on her, and eventually married and then divorced the equally stunning German singer Amina Buddadfly, has made him one of America’s most popular reality stars.
The founder of hip-hop chuckles at the irony of being a cheater and becoming the first Black host of the show “Cheaters.”
“I might do one or two more seasons. I have sympathy for those who are apprehended and those who are devastated by the finding,” he said. “My goal is not to disrupt a happy marriage, but to assist the couples in determining whether reconciliation or separation is preferable.”
Along with Amina, he also made appearances on “Marriage Boot Camp” and later on “After Happily Ever After” with Tara, a programme where your ex meets your new partner. Less well known is his inspiring and much kept secret account of growing up during the crack period and overcoming insurmountable challenges to become the man and father he is today. When folks he knew growing up and many of his peers rap about the streets, he says, “it’s more about the glorification of how they were getting it.” I experienced that from the other side. Three of my older brothers were using that drug. My cousin, who was raised primarily by Crack, also had me. On it was another cousin I adored. My family was devastated. It was a really difficult moment. I didn’t experience the selling it, receiving the cash, purchasing the cars, etc. I experienced it from the opposite end. observing the suffering that my family, particularly my mother, endured and seeing her break down. It was a challenging moment.
