Phil Breslin Wikipedia, Wife, Partner, Wiki, Instagram, Married -: The full schedule of sessions and speakers for REGIONALITY CAIRNS’ second documentary and non-fiction industry event, held at the Cairns Performing Arts Center on Friday 28 July, has been released by AIDC, Screen Queensland and Screenworks in association with Screenworks.

A wildlife filmmaking masterclass, a focus on First Nations factual series, sector networking and specially arranged 1:1 meetings with industry representatives are included in this year’s one-day program. It also offers exclusive insights into co-creation and impact campaigns, how to access film funds and prepare projects for pitch, and how to approach film financing.
Co-creating and impacting with the Territory team, a special session with director Alex Pritz and impact producer José Neto from the 2022 Peabody Award-winning National Geographic and Sundance Film Festival documentary, is the main focus of the program.
Territory, the first-person story of the Uru-eu-wau-wau indigenous people’s ongoing struggle against deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon, emerged as a turning point in terms of actual collaborative filmmaking, creating a noticeable, widespread impact, and legal change. Alex and Jose will explain how one of the most memorable films of the year was made by a dynamic team of local indigenous and global key creatives who came together to bring a local story to a global audience.
Natural Talent: Masterclass in Wildlife Filmmaking brings together production companies and cinematographers using new filming technologies to capture the land, sea and sky of far north Queensland for those seeking an insider’s knowledge of the latest developments in the natural history universe. Along with Phil Breslin, host of First Weapons and creator of Built to Survive, and Dr. Teresa Carrette of Scientific Synergy, Richard Fitzpatrick of renowned aquatic and natural history production company Biopixel discusses new techniques for capturing the area’s distinctive natural landscapes.
The special Focus On: First Nations Factual Series panel, which honors First Nations storytellers who work across multiple media, genres and audiences to produce some of this year’s most anticipated series, also features Phil Breslin. The event will offer an important in-depth look at First Nations storytelling and craft, with Bacon Factory Films’ Dean Gibson (Incarceration Nation, First Weapons) and Inkey Media’s Dan Curtis (Back to Nature, Rebel with a Cause).
CAIRNS REGIONALITY offers two very useful sessions for practitioners looking for industry insight and key practical information to help them position initiatives for market readiness and eventual funding: Toolbox for Pitch: The Must-Haves to get you Market-Ready, which provides insight into market trends, what ABC and SBS broadcasters support and how to offer them, streaming service provider DocPlay and screen agency Screen Queensland; both Industry
Roundtable: Meet the film funds Making a Difference, including participants from the International Documentary Association (IDA) and Doc Society, reveals regional and global prospects for funding and mentoring.
All delegates have the right to apply for a face-to-face meeting with decision-makers and distinguished guests of the event as part of the REGIONALITY Doc Chat 1:1 Meetings program, which is intended for filmmakers presenting projects, looking for direct knowledge or hoping to form new contacts. The day will conclude with a networking event where all attendees are invited to meet industry peers, forge new relationships and honor the large local and FNQ documentary and nonfiction community.
