Brosnan was charged with “hiking in a thermal area” and “trespassing” after allegedly entering a restricted area of the park on November 1.

Weeks before that, Brosnan, 70, was filming Unholy Trinity with Samuel L. Jackson in the area, the Livingston Enterprise reported.

He has not yet entered a plea, and court records mark the two charges as “minor misdemeanors.”

The actor, who has declared himself an “environmentalist” on social media, has been ordered to appear in court in Wyoming on January 23, 2024.

Although many visitors may be tempted to stray from Yellowstone National Park’s marked trails, the consequences can be serious.

If found guilty, the visitor could be sent to prison for up to six months and face a fine of up to $5,000, writes the Daily Mail.

A Connecticut woman was reportedly jailed for seven days and fined $2,000 for veering off a marked trail to walk toward a thermal area.

She was also banned from entering the national park for two years.

Exploring confined areas can also lead to dangerous consequences.

Since the 1800s, at least 20 people have died in the hot springs in Yellowstone National Park, according to NBC News.

It wasn’t until November 2022 that the foot of a dead Los Angeles man was found floating in one of the park’s hot springs.

Because no one witnessed what happened, park officials told NBC News it remains unclear how he died.

On its website, the park encourages visitors to stay safe by following marked walkways and trails.

It specifically says that it can “protect you and sensitive heat formations.”

Representatives for Brosnan did not immediately respond to US Sun magazine’s request for comment.
