Pokémon GO: All September 2022 Events & Rewards

Players of Pokémon Go will be able to enjoy lots of new events in September 2022, with a whole host of new activities and rewards available for players of all stripes. Throughout September, players will see specific Pokémon making major appearances in-game and new one-star, three-star, and five-star Raids, including several featuring the Legendary Pokémon Deoxys in its many different forms. In addition, rare Pokémon will also be making appearances during Pokémon Go’s autumn Community Days, allowing Pokémon Trainers all over the world to team up, battle, and catch pocket monsters in order to fill out their Pokédexes.

First launched in 2016, Pokémon Go was an instant hit with Pokémon fans all around the world. Unlike mainline games in the Pokémon series, Pokémon Go is an augmented reality game, with players traveling, catching, and battling Pokémon out in the real world using their smartphones. Since then, the game has grown and evolved, with new features gradually being introduced for players to enjoy. For September 2022, the game’s developers at Niantic are reportedly planning several events both for players in-game and in person, with plenty of rewards up for grabs.

Most ongoing battles players can engage with will still be available, so players can continue taking on Team Rocket in Pokémon Go and leading their respective teams to victory by taking over Gyms. However, several events will take place in September, catering to all players, whether they joined Pokémon Go to battle with other Trainers or collect pocket monsters for their Pokédexes.

Pokémon Go: Season Of Light (September 1st – December 1st)

Pokémon Go’s Season of Light event is scheduled to last until December 1st, with players able to encounter Cosmog, the Nebula Pokémon. In addition, Special Research tasks will become available for players on September 1st, October 5th, and November 23rd, allowing players to help Professor Willow with his research. This all presumably leads up to a face-to-face encounter with Cosmog. Rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go usually show up in raids, so it’s great to see that players who aren’t deep in Pokémon Go’s battling scene will have a chance at catching Cosmog. Players will also receive lots of benefits during Season of Light, including:

  • Appearances from Seasonal Pokémon in the wild and from Eggs.
  • Guaranteed Gifts from spinning Pokestops.
  • Increased Incense effectiveness.
  • Boosted damage in Remote Raids
  • Up to two free Raid Passes a day from spinning Gym Photo Discs
  • Double Stardust from opening Gifts
  • Increased Stardust from Research Breakthroughs
  • Additional Items from Research Breakthroughs

Notably, these are all passive, so players will receive them while just playing the game as normal. Nebulae will also appear sporadically in the sky, and players can also get Cosmog-themed cosmetic items from the Pokémon Go store, as well as getting event-themed stickers.

Psychic Spectacular (September 6th – 12th)

Pokémon Go’s Psychic Pokémon will get the spotlight during Psychic Spectacular, which runs between September 6th and 12th. Mega Alakazam will make its Pokémon Go debut, taking over Gyms and allowing players to team up and battle it in Mega Raids. In addition, certain Psychic-type Pokémon such as Kirlia, Kadabra, and Slowpoke will also appear more frequently on the map, allowing players to catch and add them to their teams. On top of that, Psychic Pokémon will also hatch more frequently from Eggs and appear more often as encounters when players complete Field Research tasks.

Psychic-type Pokémon will also take over Pokémon Go’s Raid scene during the event, with one-star raids featuring Unown and Espurr and three-star raids featuring Pokémon Go’s Alolan Raichu, Wobbuffet, Girafarig, and Oranguru. Players will also encounter all four forms of Deoxys in five-star raids.

Clefairy Commotion (September 10th, 6:00-9:00pm)

A limited-time event focuses on the Pokémon Clefairy. Between 6:00 and 9:00 pm local time, players should spot lots of Clefairy coming out of hiding and appearing on the map in droves. This is particularly great for longtime fans of Pokémon, some of whom will undoubtedly remember Clefairy making its debut appearance all the way back in Generation I as part of Pokémon’s original 151 pocket monsters.

Test Your Mettle (September 16th – 21st)

While this event has gotten an official listing and dates, it’s unclear what players will be able to do during Test Your Mettle. Given the name, players could be expected to test themselves in new Pokémon Go Raids or battle other Trainers, but as of writing, Pokémon Go’s official website only mentions it in passing, and there are no further details about what this event will be.

Pokemon Go Community Day Official Art

Pokémon Go usually holds one Community Day per month, featuring a specific Pokémon that will appear more frequently in the wild. Catching this Pokémon typically awards extra Catch XP and Candy, both of which are solid rewards. Given the limited time window, players who can go out and about to catch Pokémon should remember to keep a lookout between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm for whichever Pokémon will be featured this September.

July’s Pokémon Go Community Day focused on Flying-types Starly and Staravia, but as of writing, Niantic hasn’t yet indicated which Pokémon gets the spotlight this month.

Shiny Pokémon and featured Pokémon will make appearances in the wild, and players can also complete Special Research tasks.

Pokémon wearing certain clothing items are likely to appear, and players may have access to additional timed Research tasks.

Raid Hours and Raid Days (September 2022)

In simple terms, Raid Hours and Raid Days are scheduled periods of time when certain Pokémon are much more likely to make appearances at Raids. For example, in September, the Legendary Pokémon Deoxys will get a Raid Hour on September 7th between 6:00 and 7:00 pm and a Raid Day on September 11th between 2:00 and 5:00 pm. As a result, Deoxys in all four of its Formes will appear more frequently as Raid Pokémon at these times. Given Deoxys’ strength and Combat Power, players should bring their strongest Mega Evolved Pokémon to these five-star Raids.
