Pokémon GO: How to Find (& Catch) Mega Latios

Mega Latios will be making its Pokémon GO debut for trainers to find and capture. Mega Evolutions has recently received a massive overhaul to its entire system. Now, it’s easier than ever before to participate in Mega Raid Battles to earn Mega Energy. This Mega Energy can be used to temporarily evolve a Pokémon to its Mega Evolution form, completely changing its design and drastically increasing its strength. In the case of Latios and Latias, they are both legendary Pokémon that also have Mega Evolutions. Although, capturing them will require the same methods as other Raid Battles.

Mega Latios and Mega Latias will be added to Pokémon GO as part of the Pokémon Air Adventures event. The event will run from Tuesday, May 3, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, May 8, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. local time. Exclusive Pokémon like Flying Pikachu will appear in the overworld for trainers to capture. There’s even a chance to find its Shiny form for lucky trainers out there. Since Mega Latios and Mega Latias will be appearing in Raid Battles, it’s essential to bring along the best counters to defeat them.

Pokémon GO trainers will be able to capture Mega Latios after defeating them in a Mega Raid Battle. These require either a Remote Raid Pass or regular Raid Pass in order to participate. Fortunately, there’s a bundle available in the shop to purchase a Remote Raid Pass for a single Poké Coin. Since Mega Latios is a Dragon and Psychic-type Pokémon, it has weaknesses to Bug, Ghost, Dragon, Ice, Dark, and Fairy-type attacks. Selecting these Pokémon will make the battle much easier.

The Best Mega Latios Raid Counters in Pokémon Go

  • Rayquaza: Dragon Tail and Outrage.
  • Dialga: Dragon Breath and Draco Meteor.
  • Salamence: Dragon Tail and Outrage.
  • Zekrom: Dragon Breath and Outrage.
  • Origin Giratina: Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball.
  • Reshiram: Dragon Breath and Draco Meteor.

Mega Latios that are caught during this time period will know the exclusive move Luster Purge. This Psychic-type attack will do 120 power in trainer battles while also lowering the opponent Pokémon’s defense. In gyms and raids, it drops down to 100 power, but it’s still an incredibly viable Psychic-type move. Latios also has the chance to appear Shiny during the capturing phase. While both Mega Latias and Mega Latios and very close to each other in terms of design and typing, trainers will need to Mega Evolve them both to clear out those sections in the Pokédex. They will be rotated out of Raid Battles beginning on May 8th.

Pokémon Go is available now on iOS and Android.
