Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet introduces the first dolphin Pokémon into the franchise with Finizen the dolphin Water-type. Japan has had a sordid history with dolphins, so Finizen’s arrival has made many Pokémon fans excited. Finding and catching Finizen can give players a cute and history-making Water-type on their team.
Finizen is #933 in the Pokédex and evolves at Level 38 through Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet‘s multiplayer into Palafin. It plays with other Finizen using the water ring on its tail and has empathic abilities when it uses its ultrasonic wave. If players head to the sea, they’ll likely find one of these Pokémon blending into the water, as they are the same color. As they mimic dolphins, they swim in the shallow waters of the beaches. This means players do not need to learn how to surf to access this Pokémon. Players must be level 23 to catch this Pokémon.
Best Finizen Locations in Pokémon: Scarlet & Violet
Finizen has a catch rate of 200, making it a fairly common Pokémon. It can be found in the shallows of nearly any beach along the Paldean Sea and fits in well among other Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet Pokémon like Quaxly. Although they are common, players determined to catch a Finizen can head to a few common spawn spots in various corners of the map.
The most common Finizen location is in the East Paldean Sea on a beach northeast of Artazon, south of Levincia City. Artazon is home to the Grass-type Gym, while Levincia City houses the Electric-type Gym. Finizen won’t be helpful during these stages of the quest to be the very best. The southern beaches of South Province (Area One) are also good spawn spots if players can swim out to the Finizen with Koraidon or Miraidon. Currently, the Pokémon community is trying to decide if these two Legendary Pokémon could be considered two of the rare Paradox Pokémon in Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet. Regardless, their swimming ability can help players catch Finizen who lurks beyond the shallows.
Finizen is the first Pokémon since Wailmer and Wailord to have Water Veil as its first skill. Alongside Dondozo, it’s also the first Pokémon since Mantyke in Generation 4 to have Water Veil within its first, second, or hidden abilities. Water Veil prevents Finizen from being burned. This makes the Dolphin Pokémon a great companion when fighting Fire-type Pokémon.
Although Finizen’s abilities won’t greatly affect the Orthworm Titan Pokémon, its resistance to Steel-type attacks could make it useful. It becomes even more useful when fighting the Quaking Earth Titan, either Great Tusk or Iron Treads, as both have weaknesses to Water-type attacks. Whether players want to hunt the Titans of Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet or just want a cute dolphin, Finizen can make a great companion while exploring this beautiful world.
