Her father Vijender Singh works as a laboratory assistant at Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya in Delhi. Her mother’s name is Jagwanti Devi. She has two brothers named Ankit Gahlawat and Pushpendra Gahlawat and a sister named Priyanka Gahlawat.
Profession
In 2016, Pooja made her debut in the 48kg category at the National Youth Wrestling Championships in Ranchi. She won a gold medal at the championships. During practice, she suffered a serious injury and doctors advised her to take a year off. In 2017, she resumed practicing, and in 2018, she competed in freestyle wrestling. The tournament was organized by the Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Department to commemorate the martyrdom days of Shahid Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. In the competition, she won the title of Bharat Kesari Champion along with a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh.
Pooja went on to compete in various wrestling tournaments such as the Asian Junior Championship and the World Wrestling Championship. Her coach is her uncle Dharamveer Singh.

- At the age of 6, Pooja started learning wrestling techniques. Her uncle Dharamveer Singh was a wrestler and she used to accompany him to matches as a child. There, she often observed the moves of the wrestlers and practiced her moves at home.
- Her father did not want her to become a wrestler. Then she started playing games like volleyball at school. She has participated in national level volleyball competitions.
- She became interested in wrestling again after watching Indian wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat compete at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
- She considers Indian wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt as his inspiration.
- Pooja follows a vegetarian diet.
- In an interview, Pooja talked about her strengths in wrestling. she says,
